About the Role
Academica California is seeking an experienced and motivated Accounting Manager to join our growing team. This position offers the opportunity to work directly with charter school leaders and governing boards while helping shape the financial success of some of California's highest-performing public charter schools.
As an Accounting Manager, you will serve as a trusted financial advisor to charter schools, overseeing financial reporting, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

What You'll Do
Financial Reporting & Analysis
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Analyze financial results and provide insights to school leadership and governing boards.
• Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate financial records.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable reporting requirements.
Client & Board Support
• Assist in preparation for governing board meetings and present as needed.
• Build strong relationships with board members, school administrators, and office managers.
Accounting Operations
• Support month-end and year-end close processes.
• Prepare and reconcile all balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.
Audit & Compliance
• Work with the Director, Accounting, to ensure prompt completion of annual audits.
• Assist with financial compliance, reporting requirements, and special projects.
• Help strengthen internal controls and accounting processes.
Leadership & Development
• Provide training and support to school office managers and staff.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives and team development.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
What You Bring
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of financial statements and accounting principles.
• Experience with GAAP.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Preferred
• CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification.
• Public accounting experience.
• Experience with nonprofit or educational organizations.
• Experience presenting financial information to executive leadership or governing boards.
