Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Director of Quality Assurance to lead all aspects of quality, food safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement within our growing spice and seasoning manufacturing business. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring that all products meet customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and company quality standards while fostering a culture of food safety and operational excellence.

As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Quality Assurance will work closely with Operations, Purchasing, Product Development, and Sales to maintain our reputation for quality, consistency, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with practical problem-solving skills and is comfortable working in a small-business environment where leadership involvement extends from strategy to daily operations.

What you will OWN

Quality Management

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Quality Management System.
  • Establish and monitor quality standards for raw materials, in-process production, and finished goods.
  • Lead investigations into quality issues, customer complaints, and non-conformances, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Analyze quality metrics and trends to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Manage and maintain the company's food safety programs, including HACCP, Preventive Controls, GMPs, sanitation, allergen management, and environmental monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, FSMA, state, and local food regulations.
  • Maintain readiness for customer, regulatory, and third-party audits.
  • Serve as the Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI).

Supplier Quality

  • Oversee supplier approval, qualification, and performance monitoring programs.
  • Conduct supplier audits and collaborate with suppliers to address quality concerns.
  • Ensure incoming raw materials meet established specifications and food safety requirements.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and develop the Quality Assurance team through coaching, training, and performance management.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and food safety throughout the organization.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Purchasing, and Sales to achieve business objectives.

Customer & Audit Management

  • Act as the primary quality contact for customers, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Support customer audits, quality questionnaires, and specification reviews.
  • Lead third-party certification programs or other applicable food safety standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve product quality, food safety systems, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Utilize root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies to address recurring issues.
  • Support new product development and commercialization efforts from a quality and regulatory perspective.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive quality assurance experience within food manufacturing.
  • 3 to 5 years of leadership or management experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of FDA regulations, FSMA, HACCP, GMPs, and food safety programs.
  • Experience leading customer, regulatory, and third-party audits.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, Chemistry, or related field is preferred but not required.
  • Experience within spices, seasonings, ingredients, dry-blend manufacturing, or related food industries.
  • PCQI certification.
  • SQF Practitioner certification or equivalent food safety certification.
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of allergen management, supplier quality systems, and food labeling regulations.

JOB DETAILS

Pay Type: Salary

Hiring Start Minimum Rate: $70,000

Hiring Start Maximum Rate: $90,000

Annual Bonus: TBD & Performance Based
