Role Description

The Project Engineer supports the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil construction projects through the lifetime of the project. This role works closely with Project Managers and field teams while taking ownership of day-to-day project support and coordination activities.

The ideal candidate has construction project experience, is highly organized and proactive, and enjoys managing multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. This position offers significant autonomy and responsibility while providing mentorship and support from experienced Project Managers and company leadership. It is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow into a Project Manager role over time.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Assist with the planning, scheduling, coordination, and execution of construction projects
  • Prepare, track, and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and other project documentation
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, owners, consultants, and field personnel
  • Support project cost tracking, budgeting, forecasting, and contract administration
  • Review plans, specifications, and contract documents for constructability and compliance
  • Participate in project meetings and maintain meeting documentation
  • Conduct site visits to monitor project progress, identify issues, and coordinate solutions with field teams and Project Managers
  • Assist with procurement, material tracking, and vendor coordination
  • Help identify and mitigate project risks while maintaining project schedules and budgets
  • Take ownership of assigned project responsibilities and drive tasks to completion with limited supervision

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of construction project engineering, project coordination, or related construction management experience preferred
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • Strong understanding of construction project management principles, scheduling, budgeting, and project controls
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, contracts, and technical documents
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage priorities and work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project); experience with Bluebeam, HCSS, or similar construction software is a plus
  • Experience in heavy civil, grading, paving, earthwork, underground utilities, or related construction disciplines is preferred
