Job Title: DE Underwriter (LAPP/SAR Certified)

Job Type: Full-Time | In-Office

Better Lending is seeking an experienced DE Underwriter with active FHA Direct Endorsement (DE), LAPP, and SAR certifications to join our growing mortgage team.

Responsibilities

Underwrite conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA mortgage loans in accordance with investor, agency, and company guidelines.
Perform FHA Direct Endorsement reviews and issue final approvals as authorized.
Review loan files for accuracy, completeness, creditworthiness, income, assets, appraisal, and collateral requirements.
Ensure all underwriting decisions meet regulatory, compliance, and quality-control standards.
Work closely with loan processors, loan officers, and operations teams to resolve conditions and move files efficiently through the pipeline.
Provide clear and timely underwriting conditions and communicate decisions professionally.
Maintain strong knowledge of FHA, VA, FNMA, FHLMC, and investor guidelines.

Requirements

Active DE, LAPP, and SAR certifications are required.
Minimum 3–5 years of recent residential mortgage underwriting experience.
Strong experience underwriting FHA, VA, Conventional, and USDA loans.
Thorough understanding of agency guidelines, AUS findings, income calculation, credit analysis, and appraisal review.
Excellent attention to detail, decision-making, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage a high-volume pipeline while maintaining quality and turnaround times.
Experience with Encompass or a similar loan origination system preferred.
