CAD Technician I

Summary
Performs computer aided drafting (CAD) and design assignments of proposed engineering and operations related projects, tracks and maintains the records related to those assignments, and carries out general office functions. Reviews, designs, and prepares client specialty maps, and ensures system data integrity.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Performs assignments in support of distribution operations, such as construction projects, permit applications, etc.
- Assists in setting and maintaining production standards in the development and production of construction plans and specifications.
- Recommends improvements in process and methods used to generate CAD documentation.
- Interprets construction designs and drawings of both existing and proposed gas
distribution facilities.
- Collects information and compiles data to quantify gas facilities within newly annexed or de-annexed geographic areas, including metes and bounds interpretations.
- Reviews and updates engineering company plans detailing facility locations.
- Analyzes and interprets spatial data to ensure system integrity.
- Assists customers and employees with basic facility information inquiries.
- Designs and produces special graphic presentation maps.
- Researches company archive files for project or archived data.
- Files digital/paper records and reports, and maintains current filing system.
- Trains less experienced staff to perform duties listed above.
- Performs additional duties as apparent or as assigned.
Education
Requires a Vo-Tech/CAD/GIS/Drafting certificate or Two year CAD or GIS degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent level of knowledge and experience with a 1:1 experience to education ratio totaling 2 years.
Experience
CAD Tech - Requires either a Vo-Tech/CAD/GIS/Drafting certificate or Two year Cad or GIS degree or a minimum of 2 years of CAD/GIS experience and understanding of design methods for construction drawings, diagrams, or maps through the use of computer software.
SR CAD Tech - Requires either a minimum of 3 years of CAD/GIS experience with Vo-Tech CAD/GIS/Drafting certificate, Two year CAD or GIS degree or 5 Years experience without Vo-Tech CAD/GIS/Drafting certificate or Two year CAD or GIS degree.

- Able to understand the work and services provided by district distribution operations.
- Able to understand principles and practices used in construction projects
- Able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of mechanical drawing or drafting principles and techniques.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of computer applications, trouble shooting procedures and techniques
- Able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of land-base and survey methods, techniques, terminology and drafting conventions.
- Able to acquire and demonstrate knowledge of electric or gas engineering equipment and design
- Able to interpret electric or gas drawings, symbolism and related technical information.
- Able to understand basic GIS principles and applications
- Able to use advanced functions of personal computers, digitizers, plotters and other drafting and/or office equipment.
- Able to access and use standard PC software such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Access to create word processing assignments and spreadsheet tasks.
- Able to communicate clearly, orally and in writing, with both technical and non-technical employees and/or customers.
- Able to collect information, resolve issues and produce required products.

Physical Requirements
- Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

- Able to view computer terminal for extended periods of time.
- Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer.
- Able to operate office machines including telephone, photocopier, fax machine, calculator, laptop, mobile phone, digital camera, GPS equipment, etc.
Working Conditions
- Able to function routinely in an office environment.
- Able to work in fast-paced environment with a high volume workload and frequent, short deadlines that may require working overtime to meet established deadlines, including working nights and/or weekends as required.
- Able to tolerate occasional exposure to all weather conditions.
- Able to travel occasionally to field locations to obtain data or inspect site and may include overnight stay.
