Position Title: Marketing Manager (Part-Time)

Organization: Wilmington Symphony Orchestra

Location: Wilmington, NC ( in-office; not remote)

Hours: 15–25 hours per week

Position Overview

The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra seeks a creative, strategic, and hands-on Part-Time Marketing Manager to lead efforts that increase audience engagement, ticket sales, and community awareness. This role is responsible for planning and executing integrated marketing initiatives that support concerts, education programs, and special events while strengthening the organization’s brand presence across the region.

Reporting to and working with the Executive Director, this role is responsible for planning and executing integrated marketing initiatives that support concerts, education programs, and special events while strengthening the organization’s brand presence across the region.

This position requires regular in-person office work as well as attendance at evening and weekend rehearsals, concerts, and events to capture marketing content and support promotional efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications Strategy

  • Develop and implement comprehensive seasonal marketing and advertising plans aligned with organizational goals and revenue targets
  • Promote concerts, youth programs, education initiatives, and fundraising campaigns
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity across all platforms
  • Collaborate with leadership to determine creative direction for season campaigns and materials

Advertising & Campaign Management

  • Plan and execute multi-channel advertising campaigns (digital, print, radio, outdoor, and grassroots)
  • Write compelling, on-brand copy for advertisements, brochures, and promotional materials
  • Manage campaign timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure on-time execution
  • Track performance metrics and adjust strategies to improve ROI

Digital Marketing

  • Manage and grow social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) with engaging, mission-driven content
  • Oversee email marketing campaigns, including segmentation and performance tracking
  • Update and maintain website content, ensuring accuracy and strong user experience
  • Use analytics tools to evaluate performance and guide strategy

Content Creation & Design

  • Design and produce marketing materials including brochures, concert programs, flyers, and digital assets
  • Maintain and update website design and content
  • Create high-quality visual and written content that supports brand and campaign goals
  • Coordinate photography and video production for programs
  • Attend rehearsals, concerts, and events to capture real-time content

Audience Development & Partnerships

  • Develop and implement strategies to grow and diversify audiences
  • Create promotional initiatives to attract new attendees and reengage lapsed patrons
  • Build and manage partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and media outlets
  • Promote programs such as youth orchestras, education initiatives, and young professional groups
  • Support student and community ticket programs through targeted outreach

Public Relations & Media

  • Draft press releases and coordinate media outreach
  • Secure media placements and promotional partnerships
  • Maintain relationships with local media and community stakeholders

Event & On-Site Support

  • Serve as marketing representative at concerts, rehearsals, and events
  • Coordinate on-site promotional materials, signage, and displays
  • Support audience engagement activities and special events

Operations & Administration

  • Assist in managing the marketing budget and tracking expenses
  • Coordinate with vendors, printers, and external partners
  • Maintain marketing assets, files, and databases
  • Provide reporting and analysis for leadership and board/committee needs
  • Participate in staff meetings and organizational planning

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Arts Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2–4 years of marketing experience, preferably in nonprofit or arts organizations
  • Demonstrated experience with graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar) and brochure/layout design
  • Experience managing and updating websites and CMS platforms
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp) and social media management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and cloud-based systems
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce or similar)
  • Familiarity with audience segmentation and data-driven marketing strategies
  • Experience working with media buying, sponsorships, or partnerships
  • Passion for music and the performing arts

Additional Requirements

  • Availability to work evenings and weekends for concerts, rehearsals, and events
  • Ability to work in-office on a regular basis (this is not a remote role)
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and work in event environments as needed

Compensation

  • Hourly or stipend-based based on experience. Range is $24-$30 per hour.
