About This Job

Pre-K Co-Teacher — Entry Level, Full-Time, Onsite

Bright Futures Learning Academy seeks a warm, energetic Pre-K Co-Teacher to join our Academic Department in Long Beach, California. This role supports a play-based, developmentally appropriate classroom where young children explore, build social skills, and develop foundational academic habits. The position is ideal for an early childhood educator who is passionate about nurturing curiosity, collaborating with a lead teacher, and building strong partnerships with families.

What makes this role exciting: you will work in a close-knit team committed to individualized attention, hands-on learning, and measurable growth for each child — all within a welcoming community-focused preschool environment.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-plan and implement daily age-appropriate lesson plans and learning centers aligned with the program's curriculum and developmental goals.
  • Support classroom management by maintaining a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for children aged 3–5.
  • Observe and document each child’s developmental progress; assist with informal assessments and communicate observations to the lead teacher and families.
  • Facilitate small-group and one-on-one activities that promote social-emotional skills, language development, early literacy, and motor skills.
  • Partner with the lead teacher to prepare classroom materials, set up learning spaces, and manage transitions throughout the day.
  • Maintain daily routines, supervision during meals, rest times, and outdoor play while following health and safety policies.
  • Build positive relationships with parents and guardians through regular communication, classroom updates, and participation in family events.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Child Development Assistant (CDA) credential, Early Childhood Education certificate, or enrollment in an accredited ECE program; willingness to pursue credentialing if not yet obtained.
  • Basic knowledge of early childhood development and age-appropriate practices for Pre-K learners.
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet state health requirements (TB test, immunizations as required).
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Strong communication skills, patience, and a collaborative mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree (AA) or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
  • Previous experience in a preschool or Pre-K classroom setting.
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish or another language commonly spoken in the Long Beach community.
  • Familiarity with California early learning standards, DEI practices, and trauma-informed care approaches.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with opportunities for raises based on performance and credentialing.
  • Health insurance options (medical, dental, vision) for full-time staff.
  • Paid time off, sick leave, and paid holidays in line with company policy.
  • Professional development support, including workshops, credential reimbursement, and mentorship.
  • Retirement plan options or employer-sponsored contribution opportunities.
  • Employee discounts and tuition assistance for staff children when available.

We are seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and creative Co-Pre K Teacher to join our dynamic teaching team. In this role, you’ll work alongside a fellow teacher to plan and implement a rich and engaging curriculum that supports the whole-child development of 4–5-year-olds. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic educator who thrives in a team setting, communicates effectively with families, and is committed to fostering a positive classroom culture.
