Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Educator in planning, supervising, and implementing a stimulating program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Early Childhood Department and the JCC.
- Assist the Lead Educator in gearing the program to the individual needs of each child with special concern for their interests, talents, learning styles, and family dynamics.
- Helping each child become aware of their role as an integral member of the group and treating them with dignity and respect.
- Assist the Lead Educator in maintaining the ordered arrangement and appearance of a child-centered classroom. Assist in general housekeeping of the classroom.
- Communicating daily with families about the children’s experiences, growth and developmental milestones, under the direct supervision of the Lead Educator.
- Observing and recording children's behavior during routines and transitions.
- Assisting the Lead Educator with writing formal assessment tools for each child.
- Attending all staff meetings and other recommended JCC functions.
- Participate in and document at least 12 clock hours of continuing education a year. Plus 3 additional hours on health and safety issues.
- Attending meetings and conferences of professional organizations as a representative of the Early Childhood Department. Participation in professional organizations is highly recommended.
- Report to the Early Childhood Director or Early Childhood Assistant Director.
- Other duties as assigned.
The responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Monitoring children's indoor/outdoor activities
- Responding to children's needs in a positive and courteous manner
- Participating in small group activities
- Maintain the ordered arrangement and appearance of a child-centered classroom.
- Assist in general housekeeping of the classroom.
- Support and work together with other educators
- Follow all school procedures and regulations
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
- Must be over 18 years old and have at least a High School diploma.
- Have at least one to two years of classroom experience at an established preschool program, preferred
- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Be team-oriented, energetic, creative, and nurturing
- Must be a sensitive and mature individual who can relate well to both children and adults. Must have the personality and ability to provide warmth, leadership, and stability for program continuity.
- Lead by example; follow all NOJCC policies and procedures as defined in the NOJCC Handbook and as directed by Agency leadership.
- Basic awareness of Judaism and Jewish cultural norms and traditions
Certification Requirements
- Maintain current certification in First Aid and Infant/Child CPR
- Mandatory Reporter Training & Louisiana Dept. of Ed. Training Modules
- Louisiana Dept. of Ed Child Care Civil Background Check
