Chemist
Walker Elliott
Walker Elliott has partnered with our client to locate a Chemist with an interest in formulations and new product development. A chemist will formulate, test, and fine-tune the combustion performance of products that end up inside millions of homes and backyards across the country. If you like seeing your chemistry leave the lab and show up on a store shelf or online sites.
You'll report straight to the Senior Product Development Manager. The chemist who learns fastest works next to someone deep in the science. It's a rare and challenging position. You own your experiments from the first question to the recommendation (s) that moves a product forward.
Duties
- Design and run lab experiments that lead to new products and real improvements to those already on shelves.
- Figure out how things burn. You'll use calorimetry, thermal analysis, and physical test methods to assess combustion behavior and inform formulation decisions.
- Build and refine fuel-blend formulations that meet performance targets without sacrificing safety or emissions.
- Keep clean records and turn your data into reports and presentations people actually use to make calls.
- Follow your formulations onto the plant floor during pilot runs and scale-up, so what works at the bench holds up in production.
- Team up with Manufacturing, Quality, and Marketing when a technical problem needs to be solved or a launch needs backup.
- Keep tabs on what's happening outside our walls, from new materials and competitor moves to shifting EHS and emissions rules.
Requirements
- A bachelor's in chemistry or a related physical science. An advanced degree is a plus, not a must.
- Experience developing products, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on combustion analysis-calorimetry and emissions monitoring-or a strong thermal-analysis background you can carry into it.
- Some grounding in the physical properties of waxes, polymers, or wood-based fibrous materials.
- You design experiments on purpose and lean on statistics to read what the data is telling you.
- Background on lab instrumentation and software; comfortable with Microsoft 365.
- You keep your footing when a launch deadline or production troubleshooting..
Do not apply unless you are authorized to work in the United States for any employer as client company cannot sponsor or transfer visas at this time.
