General Summary

A Craftsperson Journeyman directs employees and operators of equipment around the job site. They plan, layout and run strings for projects while leading the crew.

Essential Job Functions

1. Regular and reliable attendance.

2. Prepared and on time for scheduled shift with proper PPE.

3. Responsible for Daily Shift validations.

4. Possess a Driver License with clean driving record.

5. Engage in morning safety tailgate meeting and communicate safety topic with crew when needed.

6. Participate in developing the Daily Detailed Work Plan.

7. Be aware of the dangers associated with hazardous atmospheres and hazards associated with accessing job site and transportation clearances.

8. Perform a job walk to identify all potential hazards around working area (underground and overhead utilities) and take procedural actions to mitigate or eliminate if any found.

9. Participate in safe work, behavioral safety audits and near hits processes.

10. Perform monthly tool audits on equipment and ensure compliance (vehicle registration/ fire extinguisher).

11. Responsible for setting elevations with laser or transit instruments for correct height requirements.

12. Run string lines to lay out and set supports.

13. Tie rebar and plan work structure.

14. Lead crew in each project to provide guidance and support.

15. Layout and oversee dirt work for civil activities.

16. Spread concrete or other aggregate mixtures.

17. Assist in job site cleanup each day.

18. Be actively involved in Behavioral Safety Process.

19. Perform tasks assigned by PLW or Foreman.

20. Develop knowledge of KSI PPM-SOPs and refer to the SOP Manual prior to each task.

21. Follow all KS Industries, LP safety, and customer policies and procedures.

22. Shall perform all physical and mental requirements listed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions in English
  • Ability to communicate with employees and various business partners in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Knowledge of Lock Out/ Tag Out process
  • Knowledge of technology (iPads, cellphones etc.)
  • Knowledge of Stop Work Authority (SWA)
  • Ability to complete training for Behavioral Safety Process
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of industry specific safety standards
  • Knowledge of using and maintaining various tools
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to perform calculations cubic/ sq. ft
  • Ability to build forms and tie rebar
  • Ability to set Tee supports

Education and Experience

Preferably 2 years of industry experience along with knowledge of tools.

Lifting/Pulling/Jerking/Grasping/Raising/Lowering: Must be able to lift, grasp up to 50 lbs. with the use of fingers, palm and wrists to hold and/or manipulate objects (hammers, saws, pencils, pens etc.) Must be able to raise and lower objects from one level to another.

Squatting/Twisting/Bend/Reaching/Stooping/Squatting/Kneeling : Must be able to twist, squat, kneel and bend in various positions with or without objects.

Pushing : Must be able to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force.

Carry/Support : Must be able to carry and provide support to objects, usually holding it in hands, arms and/or on the shoulders.

Working Conditions: The locations vary from site to site. Work is physically demanding and requires the ability to concentrate well on the job at hand, in all types of weather. Majority of the work is construction-based work. Walking and working surface vary depending on the terrain, from flat to extreme slopes and frozen, wet, snowy and slippery conditions.

Working Hours: Normally, a full-time employee will work 40 hours per week, depending on the factors such as weather and schedules. Work schedules and hours may vary depending on specific client locations and projects. In general, applicable work schedules include 5-8’s and 4-10’s. All labor laws in reference to rest breaks and meal periods will be followed.
