Carlthorp School is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and collaborative educator to lead our K-6 after-school theater program. This part-time stipend position is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about performing arts and working with elementary-aged students to help cultivate confidence, creativity, collaboration, and joyful performance experiences. The After-School Theater Co-Teacher will oversee our annual theatre productions, including a fall play and spring musical, while helping students develop performance skills and showcase their talents as part of our growing performing arts program.
Position Overview
- Position Type: Part-Time Stipend Position
- Program Duration: September – April
- Compensation: $300 per session, including tech weeks and performances
- Student Audience: Kindergarten through 6th grade
Weekly Rehearsal Schedule
- Rehearsals held 1x per week
- Time: 3:15 - 4:45 p.m.
Production Responsibilities
The Theater Teacher Will
- Direct and oversee a fall play and spring musical
- Lead weekly rehearsals and prepare students for performances
- Help coordinate auditions, casting, blocking, and choreography/staging, as appropriate
- Support students in developing confidence, collaboration, and performance skills
- Coordinate and organize props, costumes, and set pieces
- Assist with set building and overall production preparation
- Communicate rehearsal schedules, expectations, and performance details with families
- Collaborate with school leadership and staff to ensure successful productions
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging environment for all participants
Tech Week & Performance Dates
Fall Play
- Tech Week Rehearsals: Dec. 1-3 (3:15 - 5:15 p.m.)
- Performances: Dec. 4 (School Preview & Evening Performance), Additional Evening Performance TBD
Spring Musical
- Tech Week Rehearsals: April 5-8 (3:15 - 5:15 p.m.)
- Performances: April 9 (School Preview & Evening Performance), Additional Evening Performance TBD
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience working with elementary-aged students
- Have experience in theatre, musical theatre, directing, or performing arts education
- Be organized, collaborative, and creative
- Demonstrate strong communication skills with students, families, and colleagues
- Enjoy building a vibrant and engaging arts program that celebrates student voice and talent
- Be comfortable supporting all aspects of a production, including staging, props, sets, and logistics
