Position: Director of High School Youth and Young Adult Ministry

Category: Non-Exempt

Salary: negotiable

Position: Full Time (35 hours a week or more) in person

Supervisor: Pastor

Job Summary: The Director of High School Youth and Young Adult Ministry will oversee all aspects of High School Youth Ministry including OCIA for teens, High School Ministry, Young Adult Ministry and CYO. This position will supervise the CYO Athletic Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Develop and maintain the high school youth ministry program for the parish.

  • Design a four-year catechesis program for high school that supports lifelong learning into program planning.
    • Evaluate current practices and design a program that fits the needs of the parish.
    • Integrate insights from trusted sources in annual audit of curricula. Review with Pastor.
    • Align curricula with annual calendar. Calendar to be shared with volunteers, clergy as needed, and parents.
  • Design OCIA for Teens.
    • Create and develop a strategy for sacramental reception of teens that are not up to date and desire to be so.
    • Meet with families individually to determine plan and recommend next steps. Review with Pastor.
    • Accompany teens along process.
    • Work with the OCIA Leadership team to plan, execute, and communicate liturgy & OCIA related needs.
  • Supervise Athletic Director and CYO Parish Programs.
    • Create and maintain budget for Volleyball and Basketball programs.
    • Assist in scheduling payments of referees.
    • Order any needed supplies for sports including equipment, jerseys, trophies, and ensure gym standard.
    • Ensure all paperwork is up to date and compliant for student athletes.
    • Ensure all coaches are background checked and certified via the AOD.
    • Plan, organize and execute all sports banquets.
    • Supervise Athletic Director.
  • Collaborate with Middle School Youth Minister to create two annual retreat options for students to attend.
    • Create and maintain a retreat budget and review with Business Manager.
    • Ensure all program participants attend at least one retreat. Specifically, Confirmation and students in OCIA.
    • Create an at-home retreat option in the event of extenuating circumstances for OCIA teens.
    • Order retreat supplies in a timely manner so they may be received on time.
  • Young Adult Ministry
    • Create and maintain a budget.
    • Coordinate calendar and space for members.
    • Advertise any upcoming events.
    • Attend monthly leadership meetings to offer guidance, support, and connect them with other Young Adult groups.
  • Communication
    • Monthly communication with parents and students is desired in form of a newsletter for high schoolers. Can be printed or emailed.
    • Weekly bulletin articles created and submitted to Director of Communications.
    • Create, publish, and print Annual Calendar by April 30.
    • Request pulpit announcements as needed.
    • Develop clear strategies for desired partnerships with All Saints Catholic Schools as well as Our Lady of Good Counsel, Resurrection, and St. Thomas A’Becket Parishes.
  • Administrative
    • Meet as needed with Athletic Director.
    • Attend and prepare for monthly staff meetings.
    • Website maintenance as needed.
    • Develop an annual budget for all departments overseen.
    • Tracks and monitor expenses within Middle Youth Ministry, Confirmation Program, High School Ministry Program, OCIA program, and CYO.
    • Plans and develop an annual calendar for all programs.
    • Ensure dates are communicated and spaces are reserved on the Church calendar.
    • Create weekly bulletin articles, and request pulpit announcements as needed.
  • Volunteers
    • Find, train, and orient volunteers for the high school youth ministry program.
    • Communicate expectations at annual volunteer training.
    • Convey any changes ahead of monthly communication with volunteers.
    • Plan and implement volunteer events as needed.
    • Ensure all volunteers are compliant with AOD standards for volunteers including an annual background check and Virtus training.

Position Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic
  • Minimum of 5 years ministry experience, youth ministry preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Religious Studies, Pastoral Theology, or a related field. Or equivalent employment experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word
  • Must have the capacity to set your own direction, identify solutions, and execute decisions.
  • Exercise Strategic Judgment - the ability to assess situations, weigh options, and make sound decisions without senior management guidance and direction.
  • Willingness to grow in expertise related to ongoing development in high school youth and young adult ministry.
  • Work closely with parish leadership team including clergy, parish staff, parish leaders.
