TITLE: Communications & Development Specialist
REPORTS TO: Director of Development & Communications
POSITION SUMMARY: The Communications & Development Specialist supports organizational fundraising and communications efforts, by creating and supporting organizational communications, marketing, graphic design, public relations, and social media. This role will provide donor stewardship support, fundraising event support, website management, and overall communications support. The Communications & Development Specialist will work closely with the Director of Development & Communications, Resource Development team, CEO, and external vendors to advance Brighter Days development, communications and fundraising efforts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications
· Create and/or coordinate the design, development and production of all Brighter Days print marketing materials, including flyers, brochures, direct mail appeals, the Annual Report, fact sheets and other materials.
· Create and/or coordinate the design and development of Brighter Days electronic communications, including monthly e-newsletters, various eCampaigns, invitations, save-the-dates and various announcements as needed
· Plan, create and oversee all social media messaging and posts for Brighter Days in coordination with key staff and external communications consultants
· Work with external Public Relations Consultant to write and edit press releases and send out media advisories to pitch the organization to various media outlets
· Coordinate the design, development and production of various fundraising and event campaign materials, including North Texas Giving Day, Holiday Campaign, Summer Camp Campaign and Back-to-School Campaign
· Work closely with the Director of Development & Communications to assist with and grow our Communications, Public Relations & Social Media Strategies.
Development
· • Manage a small portfolio of donors and prospects with a focus on cultivation, stewardship, annual giving, donor acknowledgements, impact reporting, and relationship-building activities that strengthen donor engagement and retention.
· Manage the Silent Auction for Brighter Days annual luncheon, including soliciting in-kind gifts, working closely with Silent Auction volunteer chairs and committee, entering data on all auction donations into auction software and distributing thank you letters.
· Maintain and update Brighter Days’ website with current news and events
· Assist with grant research and proposal preparation as assigned
· Assist with donor database entry and thank you correspondence as needed
· Work closely with the Administrative & Family Connection teams with various events and activities throughout the year (i.e. special events)
· Participating as a staff liaison on various committees as needed
· Make public appearances and speaking engagements as needed to share information about Brighter Days with the community.
· Work closely with Brighter Days’ Director of Development & Communications, CEO and Board of Directors to execute the annual Resource Development plan.
· Work closely with the Director of Development & Communications to support revenue growth and the successful execution of the annual Pot of Gold Luncheon, including sponsorship support, event logistics, donor engagement, and related event activities.
· Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
· Perform other related duties as requested.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/WORK EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or related field preferred
· 1-3 years of experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
· Demonstrated skills and experience in design, communications, writing and editing
· Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
· Demonstrated skills in handling highly sensitive and confidential information and materials
· Demonstrated knowledge of Windows-based computer systems, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other design software
· Experience with or understanding of email management systems a plus (i.e. constant contact, Mailchimp, etc.)
· Experience with or understanding of customer relationship management systems (CRM) a plus (i.e. salesforce.)

HOURS: Full Time (40 hours per week)
OFFICE SCHEDULE: The Communications & Development Specialist will be required to work a regular M-F 9am – 5pm schedule that includes being in the office a minimum of 3 days per week.
TRAVEL: Local travel limited to the Dallas area, as needed for various events or meetings. This position will be reimbursed for their local travel at the approved state rate.
SALARY: $50-$60K based on experience.
