About the Role
The Paramedic II plays a pivotal role in delivering hospital-level acute care directly in patients’ homes as part of an innovative hospital-at-home care model. This role uses clinical ability, mobile technology, and interdisciplinary teamwork to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care outside traditional hospital walls. This role improves patient outcomes by working closely with interdisciplinary teams. The Paramedic II, functions with an expanded scope of practice under approved medical protocols and direct delegation by a hospital physician to provide prompt patient-centered interventions.
This role requires strong clinical judgment, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to remain calm in fast-paced and dynamic environments. Clinical and on-the-job training are provided to support your success in delivering hospital level care, for proper conditions, in the home.

What You’ll Do
- Clinical & Environmental Assessments : Conduct thorough physical exams and assess the home environment for safety and factors that may impact recovery or the plan of care. Identify and escalate any deviations that could compromise patient outcomes.
- Care Coordination with Virtual Team : Serve as an on-site extension of the virtual care team. Maintain real-time communication with the remote command center nurse and physician to report findings, collaborate on care decisions, receive treatment orders, and ensure all aspects of the care plan are executed safely and effectively.
- Crisis & Rapid Response Support : Respond to crisis situations and rapid response alerts in the home environment, providing necessary interventions based on hospital orders and standing order protocols.
- Patient & Caregiver Education : Deliver personalized education regarding disease management, medication regimens, treatment expectations, and when to seek help. Use both verbal coaching and written materials to reinforce understanding.
- Documentation & Compliance : Document all assessments, interventions, communications, and outcomes in the electronic health record (EHR) system(s) in real time. Ensure care is delivered according to program protocols and clinical standards
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration : Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, case managers, social services, and community partners to ensure continuity of care. Act as a liaison between the patient and healthcare system to eliminate gaps in care or missed services.
- Program Support & Leadership (as assigned) : Take part in research initiatives, support program development, and mentor new staff as directed by leadership. Represent the program in community outreach or quality improvement activities when needed.
- Drive a DispatchHealth branded vehicle to patient homes and manage daily supplies and equipment
- Don and doff PPE appropriately and maintain strict infection prevention practices
- Additional duties as assigned
What You’ll Need
- Active Paramedic (EMT‑P) certification
- Minimum 2 years of patient facing clinical experience
- High school diploma or GED
- BLS (American Heart Association) certification
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining an acceptable driving record in accordance with company policy and insurer requirements.
- Strong customer service, communication, and technology skills
- Experience gathering comprehensive patient histories and documenting in EMR systems
- Previous experience with procedural skills such as vascular access, medication administration, wound care, etc.
- Ability to travel to other markets approximately 10% based on business needs
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Ability to drive and sit in a car for long periods of time
- Ability to drive during the day and at night

Physical & Work Requirements

- Ability to drive and sit in a vehicle for extended periods (day and night)
- Ability to climb up to three flights of stairs while carrying equipment
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to perform patient care in nontraditional or confined spaces
- Visual and auditory ability to perform point‑of‑care testing such as EKGs, blood draws, taking vital signs, and patient assessment
- Ability to provide patient care in non-traditional or smaller spaces with limited room for movement.
- Ability to hear with or without accommodation.
Employment Information
This is a field-based role requiring attendance in the market location before and after each shift to prepare for field visits and gather and restock supplies. Depending on the market territory, it may require travel to practice locations in other states.
Employment is contingent upon verification of identity and authorization to work in the United States. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. DispatchHealth does not sponsor employment visas.
Pay Rate $37.00 per hour.
