Location: Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) – TDIP Capital Improvement Projects / Tenant Improvement Projects, Los Angeles, CA (On-Site). Candidate must be willing and able to commute to and work on-site at LAX in Los Angeles, CA.

CLMI Group is seeking an Inspector, Electrical/IT to support Los Angeles World Airports' (LAWA) Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA's Capital Improvement Program.
The Electrical/IT Inspector will perform daily inspections of electrical and low-voltage IT systems on building and terminal construction projects within LAWA's Terminal Development and Improvement Program (TDIP), ensuring contractor compliance with applicable codes, project specifications, and LAWA-specific standards.
Position Summary
- Support LAWA's Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA's Capital Improvement Program.
- Must be able to work any assigned shift – day, swing, or night – as required to meet the contractor's construction schedule.
- Successfully hired candidates must obtain a LAWA SIDA badge prior to official start.
Essential Job Duties
- Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of electrical and IT systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications; review and interpret construction documents including blueprints, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Prepare comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the who, what, when, where, and how of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner.
- Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, 72) and LAWA-specific standards.
- Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities.
- Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.
- Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.
- Perform inspections of electrical installations, including but not limited to:
- Underground utilities and duct banks
- High-voltage switchgear and electrical panels
- Conduit racks, conductors, and grounding systems
- Interior and exterior lighting systems
- Fire life safety systems, including smoke/heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systems
- Electrical shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and breaker coordination
- Inspect IT infrastructure installations, such as:
- Low-voltage systems (voice/data, security, access control)
- Door card readers, security cameras, and public address (P.A.) systems
- Communication cabling and equipment rooms
- May assume other duties as required or needed.
Requirements
Professional Experience Level / Minimum Qualifications
- Electrical/IT inspection staff shall have 3 years or more of experience performing electrical/IT inspections for building construction; for tasks on the Airfield, 3 years or more of experience with airfield lighting is required.
- Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Electrical Inspector.
- Proof of NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years.
- Proof of Cal-OSHA 30-hour training within the last 4 years, prior to assignment.
- Training and knowledge of NFPA –70, 70E, & 72.
- isFall protection and harness training.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Experience at the journey-level as an electrician, with a focus on the installation and repair of electrical systems in public works, institutional, commercial, or industrial settings.
- Experience overseeing and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations on significant construction projects.
- Involvement in complex projects requiring coordination with multiple stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and city officials.
- Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies, ensuring that all aspects of construction meet required standards.
- Openness to learning the prescriptive items required by the agency.
- Strong understanding of diverse code requirements.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
Required Education
- High school diploma (or equivalent).
Hardware / Software Knowledge
- Knowledge of project management information software used for inspection/document control (e.g., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam).
- Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documents, with minimal supervision.
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work any assigned shift – day, swing, or night – as required to meet the contractor's construction schedule.
- Must be open to modified schedules, including nights and weekends, as dictated by contractors' work activities and accelerated project schedules.
- Availability to work overtime as required to meet project deadlines is preferred.
- Successfully hired candidates must obtain a LAWA SIDA badge prior to official start.
Benefits
Offered rate of compensation will be based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and geographic location. The salary range for this position is $133,000 - $143,000
