As a Designer II, you will evaluate, select, and perform in a self-directed manner in all aspects of the interior design process, including preparation of presentation materials, schematic design, design development, contract documents, renderings, and construction administration activities within an established budget, schedule, site, and programmatic requirements.

This is a hybrid position based out of the Nashville, TN office. The position will be reporting to the Senior Director, Design.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs assignments with instructions to the general results expected from management.
  • With minimal supervision develops design concepts, space planning, and FF&E selections and produces presentations to present to management.
  • Assists in day-to-day coordination efforts required to produce a set of Construction Documents and FF&E Specifications, namely the research, communication, and documentation required to execute the project effectively.
  • Overall knowledge of the design process, including design documentation, FF&E specifications, color, and materials.
  • Displays creative interior design skills including concept development, hand sketching, and selection of materials, color palette, and FF&E.
  • Implements all planning and design into AutoCAD.
  • Presents clear and concise concepts.
  • Ensures daily and weekly tasks are completed.
  • With minimal supervision, leads all efforts into producing a set of construction documents including working with consultants.
  • With minimal supervision, can create interior design details including custom millwork, bars, ceiling sections, etc.
  • Interested in all areas of design including interior architecture, furniture design, and graphic design.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of design principles and theory.

Management & Leadership

  • Meets regularly with management to discuss design direction, general tasks, project challenges, schedules, upcoming meetings, and deadlines.
  • Responsible for organizing and maintaining accurate records of all project-related FF&E and finish selections.
  • Attends meetings as requested by management, takes notes, and provides documentation of meeting notes.
  • Executes delivery of documents, samples, and general correspondence to consultants as needed.
  • Collaborates with Senior Director and Vice President to fully understand service needs and suggest improvements for how we as an agency can work better.
  • Supports agency culture through leadership integrity, transparent communication, and demonstration of Dessin’s core values.

Technical Skills

  • Experience in furniture design and construction methods for high-use hospitality environments.
  • Experience in FF&E specification writing.
  • Some understanding and knowledge of conventional construction methods and techniques and how to document them appropriately. Continues to grow knowledge.
  • Produces AutoCAD design drawings including elevations, sections, and details.
  • Produces architectural/finish schedules in Excel.
  • Produces presentations in InDesign.
  • Performs shop drawings and submittal reviews at the direction of management.
  • Supervises and/or performs site observations and installations as required by management.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Some knowledge of Revit and SketchUp with a desire to advance knowledge in both programs.

Experience & Education

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a broad range of hospitality design.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an accredited Interior Design/Architecture program.
  • Degrees must come from a CIDA-accredited Interior Design program or NAAB-accredited Architecture program.
  • Familiarity with construction materials, Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) specifications/providers, particularly as applicable to the hospitality industry, is a plus.
