Job Duties
Under the supervision of the Director of Public Safety, performs duties to enforce state, county, and municipal laws, rules, regulations, and school policies for the protection and security of students and employees of the SC Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Patrol the campus parking lot, grounds, building, and outside perimeter to ensure safety of the students and employees, prevent crime, detect violations of the !aw, and protect property. Develop and submit written safety reports.
- Respond to complaints, reports of violations, and requests for assistance involving on-campus students and employees. Serve as a first response to requests from students and employees concerning campus trespassers. Liaisons with local law enforcement, when necessary.
- Following established law enforcement protocol, conduct preliminary investigations of complaints, including alleged criminal acts. Based on investigation results, issue warnings and citations or apprehends and arrests violators of laws and regulations. Document incidents and submit police report.
- Responds to campus emergencies, providing assistance and directing traffic and/or personnel. Liaisons with local law enforcement and emergency services personnel when necessary. Document incidents and submit necessary reports.
- Testify in court and other legal proceedings, including administrative hearings and proceedings for determining juvenile cases.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum And Additional Requirements
A high school diploma, law enforcement experience and certification by the Law Enforcement Training Council in accordance with Section 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976. Must possess a current SC Driver’s License.
Additional Requirements
- Knowledge of proper law enforcement officer behavior and role.
- Knowledge of modern law enforcement officer techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of how to collect and preserve evidence; knowledge of the legal rights of both suspects and law enforcement personnel.
- Knowledge of the laws one is responsible for enforcing; knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of other law enforcement agencies.
- Ability to evaluate situations and make good decisions; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to deal firmly, yet tactfully, with the general public, students, parents, and employees.
- Ability to effectively interview witnesses and suspects; ability to use a personal computer and its associated software; and the ability to read and comprehend written materials.
