Job Details
The University of Kentucky (UK) seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and student-centered strategic leader to serve as its next
Associate Vice President for Global Engagement (AVP). As UK's senior international officer, the AVP will provide visionary and operational leadership for global engagement, ensuring alignment with the University's priorities related to student success, research excellence, and institutional impact.
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Success, the AVP will guide the University's global strategy, advance a comprehensive approach to internationalization, and oversee the University of Kentucky International Center (UKIC)—the institution's hub for global programs, partnerships, and services. The AVP will lead the development and execution of a cohesive international strategy; strengthen and expand global partnerships; oversee international student and scholar services; support international recruitment and enrollment efforts; and advance global learning, research collaboration, and health initiatives. This leader will also serve as a principal advisor to University leaders on global trends, geopolitical dynamics, and emerging opportunities in international education. The AVP will represent UK in national and international forums, manage complex global partnerships, and ensure excellence in compliance, risk management, and operational effectiveness across all global initiatives.
The University of Kentucky is the Commonwealth's flagship, land-grant institution and the state's largest university, enrolling more than 38,000 students across 200+ academic programs. As an R1 university with over $500 million in annual research expenditures, UK is committed to advancing student success, strengthening research and creativity, and driving meaningful economic and community impact. Global engagement is central to these priorities, positioning the next Associate Vice President to play a key role in shaping and accelerating the University's continued momentum.
The University of Kentucky International Center (UKIC) provides leadership and services in several areas including international student and scholar services, education abroad, international enrollment, global partnerships, and international research and health initiatives. A highly collaborative enterprise, UKIC partners closely across campus to deliver high-impact global programs and support international students, faculty, and staff. With a staff of approximately 35 and a $4.6 million budget, the Center advances compliance, risk management, and continuous improvement while expanding global learning opportunities. UK currently enrolls nearly 1,400 international students and supports more than 1,100 students annually in education abroad, reflecting its strong and growing global presence.
The successful candidate will possess an advanced degree and at least ten years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in student services management or a closely aligned field. Experience in a comprehensive university with an international student population is also strongly preferred. While not required, a doctorate or other terminal degree is preferred. This role requires a leader who is globally experienced, culturally adept, and capable of navigating an increasingly complex international landscape with strategic insight and operational excellence.
