Compliance Intern

Sunrise Political Solutions, Inc

POSITION SUMMARY

Sunrise Political Solutions, Inc. is a San Diego-based political compliance and treasury management firm serving Democratic and progressive campaigns, committees, and political action committees across California and federal jurisdictions. We are a small, meticulous team, and every filing receives the same level of care whether it is a school board race or a statewide campaign.

We are seeking a Compliance Intern to support our compliance and treasury work through the 2026 general election cycle. This is a paid, structured internship intended to provide substantive, hands-on experience in FPPC and FEC campaign finance compliance under the direct supervision of our staff. The intern will work alongside our team, learn the fundamentals of state and federal compliance and treasury operations, and carry one assigned campaign through a full reporting cycle as a capstone project. There may also be opportunities to learn about campaigns beyond the compliance and treasury setting.

TERM AND SCHEDULE

Duration: Through mid-November 2026 (full general election cycle)

Hours: 10 to 20 hours per week, part-time

Compensation: $22.00 per hour

Location: In-person primarily in San Diego, California; hybrid available after approval and initial training

Benefits: Paid sick leave; academic credit coordination available upon request

Consistent availability is essential to our workflow. A few dedicated half or full days each week is considerably more useful to us than scattered hours. Preference will be given to candidates who can commit to close to 20 hours per week consistently through the election.

SUPERVISION

The intern reports to compliance staff. All campaign finance filings and all client guidance are reviewed and submitted by senior staff.

CAPSTONE PROJECT

Each intern is assigned a single down-ballot California campaign to follow from start to finish through the 2026 general election. Over the course of the internship, the intern observes and supports that committee through its compliance life cycle, from intake and setup through periodic reporting and post-election close-out. The project is designed to give the intern a complete, practical understanding of how a compliant campaign operates over a full cycle.
