Senior Interior Designer

Location: Santa Rosa, CA

Position Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Interior Design Director, Principal, or Project Manager

About the Role

Are you a visionary design leader who loves bridging the gap between bold, high-level concepts and flawless technical execution?

We are seeking a Senior Interior Designer to champion the interior design scope for our most impactful projects. In this role, you won't just design spaces; you will establish the project's creative direction, lead a talented project team, and serve as a trusted partner to our clients and consultants. Working independently with supportive leadership guidance, you will play a critical role in team mentorship, client communication, and the strategic growth of our practice.

What You’ll Do (Essential Duties)Design Leadership

· Own the Vision: Lead the interior design scope from initial concept through construction—driving space planning, finish development, FF&E strategies, and design intent.

· Collaborate & Align: Work side-by-side with architects and project leadership to seamlessly integrate the architectural shell with beautiful, brand-aligned, and code-compliant interiors.

· Curate the Details: Guide the selection, specification, and execution of finishes, furnishings, lighting, materials, color palettes, and artwork within project budgets.

Project Delivery & Documentation

· Oversee Production: Lead and review high-quality interior documentation, including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, finish schedules, and comprehensive FF&E specifications.

· Guard the Quality: Review construction documents, consultant drawings, shop drawings, and installation plans for absolute accuracy and alignment with the design vision.

· See It Through: Support construction administration by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, managing field issues, and observing on-site installations.

Client, Team, & Business Leadership

· Be the Primary Voice: Serve as the main point of contact for clients, operators, and vendors, professionally presenting concepts and managing feedback.

· Empower the Team: Mentor and guide junior designers and interns, fostering their design thinking and technical development while managing project plans, staffing, and timelines.

· Support Firm Growth: Participate in marketing pursuits, interviews, and proposal development to help win new work and elevate our firm’s design culture.

What We’re Looking For

· The Experience: Typically 8 to 15 years of professional interior design experience. Experience in hospitality, multifamily, senior living, workplace, or commercial sectors is highly preferred.

· The Education: Bachelor’s degree from a CIDA-accredited Interior Design program, or a degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or Architecture.

· The Credentials: NCIDQ certification is preferred (Licensed Architect status may be considered in lieu of NCIDQ). LEED accreditation or sustainability credentials are a major plus.

· The Technical Toolkit: Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required. Proficiency in Revit is highly preferred; experience with AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and SketchUp is a plus.

· The Know-How: Deep knowledge of building codes, ADA/accessibility requirements, furniture systems, detailing, and technical interior documentation.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

· Primarily based in a professional office environment with sustained computer-based work.

· Regular physical activities include sitting, walking, standing, and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs (think material samples and boards).

· Travel: Occasional travel will be required for project site visits, client presentations, and installations.
