Licensed Customs Broker

Stable Software

About Stable Software

Stable Software builds technology for the international trade compliance industry. Our flagship product, DrawbackAI, automates duty drawback claim processing for customs brokerages and importers, and we're expanding into adjacent areas including CBP reconciliation and tariff analysis tools. Alongside our software products, we handle traditional customs brokerage work, so this role blends real filing and compliance practice with the chance to shape software used across the industry.

The Role

We're hiring a Licensed Customs Broker to be the regulatory anchor of our team. You'll split your time between hands-on brokerage work and serving as the compliance authority behind our products: reviewing claim output, working with customers' trade teams, and making sure everything we build holds up under CBP scrutiny.

This is a role at a small, growing company, which means breadth. One week you might be working entries and post-summary corrections; the next you're reviewing drawback claims before transmission or helping our engineers translate a regulation into product logic.

You don't need drawback experience to apply. If you know entry summaries, classification, and Part 111 obligations cold, we can teach you Part 190. If you already know drawback, even better.

What You'll Do

  • Perform traditional brokerage work: entry filing, classification, post-summary activity, and client compliance support
  • Review drawback claims and supporting data before transmission to CBP, serving as the human checkpoint on automated claim output
  • Own regulatory compliance across our workflows: 19 U.S.C. § 1313, 19 C.F.R. Part 190, reconciliation, recordkeeping, and broker responsibilities under Part 111
  • Work directly with customers (brokerage operations teams and corporate trade departments) on claim questions, data requirements, and CBP correspondence
  • Partner with our engineering team to translate regulatory requirements into product logic, validation rules, and review workflows
  • Support CBP interactions including claim inquiries, desk reviews, and documentation requests
  • Help build internal compliance procedures as we scale, including audit trails and review gates
  • Depending on experience and interest, potentially serve in a license-qualifying capacity as the business grows

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Active U.S. Customs Broker License in good standing
  • 3+ years of hands-on customs brokerage experience (entry filing, classification, post-summary work)
  • Strong working knowledge of ACE, entry summary (7501) data, and CBP regulatory framework
  • Comfort working alongside software and data tools; you don't need to code, but you'll live in structured data

Preferred

  • Duty drawback experience (filing, reviewing, or managing §1313 claims under TFTEA)
  • Familiarity with reconciliation, Section 301 exclusions, or MPF/HMF refund mechanics
  • Experience at a brokerage, freight forwarder, or in-house corporate trade compliance team
  • Prior work with ABI transmission or CATAIR specifications

Why This Role Is Different

Most LCB roles are volume jobs: file entries, hit deadlines, repeat. Here, your expertise does double duty. The brokerage work keeps you sharp and close to real entries, and the product work means your knowledge gets encoded into software used across the industry rather than spent one entry at a time. You'll have direct access to the founders and a real voice in how our products develop.

Compensation & Details

  • Salary: $90k - $120k
  • 100% paid Gold PPO BCBS health/dental/vision (individual and family - amazing insurance)
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Fun and laidback work environment
  • Flexible work hours, 40/hours/week expectation (we don't work crazy hours.)
  • Remote OK; Hybrid schedule based out of the Troy, MI area preferred
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

How to Apply

Send your resume and a short note about your brokerage background to ***email_hidden***. If you have drawback experience, tell us about the most complicated claim you've worked on.
