Role Description
Reporting to Domestic Quality Manager, the Quality Control Specialist plays a pivotal role in helping facilitate the growth and execution of domestic production based out of Long Island City, NY. The core responsibility of the position is to perform quality control of products and processes. The Quality Control Specialist collaborates closely with the Shop, Shop manager, Navy Sales, Shop Planning, and Engineering.

Core Responsibilities
- Perform inspection of products according to pre-designated requirements
- Perform inspection of manufacturing and quality processes according to requirements
- Perform incoming inspection of materials and outgoing inspection of products.
- Ensure quality documentation is being generated and filed properly
- Draft procedures and work instructions as necessary to maintain and improve quality
- Keep measuring devices calibrated and controlled by required procedure.
- Assist with root cause analysis of failures
- Identify, document, communicate, and track nonconforming material through the NCR process until disposition is completed.
- Communicate quality concerns promptly with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, and Management to ensure timely resolution of quality issues.
- Document inspection results, quality findings, and audit observations accurately and maintain complete quality records.
- Place nonconforming material on hold and verify that only conforming product is released for shipment.
- Support internal quality audits by identifying documentation deficiencies and assisting departments in maintaining ISO 9001 compliance.
- Escalate recurring quality issues and trends to management while supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Maintain an active presence on the manufacturing floor to monitor product quality, support production activities, and ensure compliance with established quality requirements.
Key Criteria/Requirements
- At least 5 years of inspector and/or quality control experience
- Ability to work in a machine shop environment
- Be a critical player in the ISO QMS and support the record keeping functions throughout the facility
- Ensure traceability continuity in the shop is maintained
- Must be able to communicate with multiple people both in person and remote and operate autonomously as needed to achieve desired outcome.
- Able to draft inspection reports and communicate with key stakeholders to resolve any issues
- Must be able to work closely with Quality Manager, staff engineers, production engineers, and shop to dispose of any products with issues
- Work with engineers and stakeholders to perform root cause analysis to resolve issues
- Must be willing to travel up to 5% of the year for business needs
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a manufacturing/machine shop environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
- Comfortable working on the production floor and interacting with machinists, assemblers, welders, and other shop personnel to support quality initiatives.
Technical Requirements
- Full understanding of ISO 9001 principles
- Technology savvy, comfortable working with various software is moderate to high.
- Microsoft Office Suite- Excel, Word, PPT, Outlook, Teams
- Smartsheet project management software is a PLUS.
- Proficient with measuring devices (i.e calipers, gauges)
- Able to lift 50 lb & wear steel-toe shoes
- Able to work in all physical positions.
- Must be ASTM PT Level 2 certified.
- Welding inspection and casting inspection experience a plus.
- Must qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR and other applicable U.S. export control regulations.
- Able to read blueprints and bills of materials
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including steel-toe footwear, safety glasses, hearing protection, and other PPE as required.
- Must meet the visual acuity requirements of ASNT SNT-TC-1A (or other applicable industry standards, such as NAS 410, as required by customer or regulatory specifications)
