Fire & Life Safety Officer

- GENERAL SUMMARY
- The Fire and Life Safety Officer plans, develops, inspects, coordinates and implements fire and life safety programs to ensure the safety of employees, patients and visitors at CHKDHS. Reports to the Director of Safety, Security and Emergency Management.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures the organization’s compliance with applicable state, federal and regulatory codes governing building fire and life safety.
- Collaborates with hospital personnel and other campus partners to develop and implement proactive strategies and means to address and reduce environmental health and safety risks.
- Manages programs necessary to comply with life safety codes and standards applicable to a complex organization and facilities.
- Conducts ongoing fire and life safety inspections according to codes and regulations.
- Maintains timely and up to date reports and logs of inspections.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with various local, state and federal regulatory agencies and other agencies with respect to fire and life safety issues.
- Provides life safety guidance and direction on construction activities and training programs.
- Investigates and recommends fire and life safety system performance specifications for the health system.
- Responds to critical situations as needed to provide assistance in areas of responsibility.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
- None required.
- MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of life and fire safety programs at a level normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or a closely related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training in related field necessary.
- Demonstrated knowledge in applicable life safety codes and hazardous material procedures.
- Technical inspection or supervision of construction project for fire and life safety compliance preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing programs to meet OSHA regulations, fire codes, and other standards with working knowledge of the interpretations, technical principles, practices, equipment and procedures used to comply with fire and life safety codes and regulations.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain a variety of internal and external working relationships.
- Excellent organizational skills and highly self motivated while able to accept direction with the completion of task.
- Ability to plan and meet deadlines required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) necessary.
- Previous experience in healthcare a plus.
- Must meet the insurability policy requirements to drive a CHKD vehicle.
- Must be able to pass the CHKD driving test within 30 days of employment.
- Must meet the trustworthy and reliability standards and expanded background investigation as mandated.
- Increased Security Clearance for job role Required: Criminal background check, verification of employment history, educational and personal reference check verification is required for identified job.
