Build Homes Build Community (yestohousing.me) is hiring a part time, contract Coalition Manager. The position is mostly remote in Maine with in person meetings and some in state travel. 10 – 15 hours/week to start. $40 to $65/hour depending on experience.
About the Initiative
Build Homes, Build Community is a statewide effort focused on building local support and momentum for housing across Maine.
The work centers on helping communities, organizations, business leaders, and municipal leaders work together to support housing growth before individual projects become controversial. This initiative is about coordination, public engagement, and action. Not policy analysis or research.
The Role
We are looking for a highly organized and action-oriented Coalition Manager to help coordinate housing support efforts across Maine.
A primary responsibility of this role will be convening and coordinating the initiative’s founding partners, including the Maine Affordable Housing Coalition, MEREDA, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, and the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce. The Coalition Manager will organize meetings, develop clear agendas, help establish priorities, and support the group in creating actionable plans with accountability and follow through.
This role will also work closely with influential business, civic, and municipal leaders across Maine to help build stronger local support for housing and advance pro housing conversations at the community level.
The ideal candidate is someone who can build relationships, communicate clearly, and turn ideas into action.
Key Responsibilities
Convene and Coordinate Founding Partners
- Organize and facilitate regular coalition meetings
- Create agendas, track priorities, and maintain clear action plans
- Help drive accountability, follow through, and execution across partner organizations
- Support alignment around statewide and regional housing initiatives
Create Simple Communication Tools
- Develop talking points, newsletters, outreach materials, and engagement toolkits
- Support basic social media and coalition communications
- Maintain a simple tracker of initiatives, meetings, and opportunities across the state
Help Engage Business and Community Leadership
- Help convene local stakeholders around housing readiness and growth strategies
- Support regional collaboration and leadership engagement on housing related issues
Support Pro Housing Local Initiatives
- Work proactively with communities and municipal leaders to encourage housing supportive zoning and local policies
- Support conversations around tools such as TIFs, workforce housing strategies, and growth planning
- Help identify opportunities to advance local housing readiness efforts
Build Public Support and Engagement
- Coordinate public engagement efforts, sign on campaigns, and community outreach
- Help normalize public support for housing and community growth
Qualifications
- Experience in organizing, coalition building, advocacy, public engagement, or community development
- Strong communication, facilitation, and coordination skills
- Ability to work effectively with business, civic, and municipal leaders
- Highly organized with strong follow through and attention to detail
- Comfortable working independently and managing multiple priorities
Bonus points for
- Existing relationships in Maine communities
- Experience working with municipal leaders or public processes
- Familiarity with housing, zoning, or economic development issues
