The Part-Time Collections Specialist supports the care, preservation, and documentation of artifacts from the digital age for the Mimms Museum of Technology and Art located in Roswell, Georgia. This role assists with collections management, artifact handling, exhibit preparation, and research support while working collaboratively with museum staff, volunteers, and interns. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about preserving computing and technological history for future generations.

Essential Responsibilities

Collections Care and Management

  • Coordinate object deliveries and process incoming acquisitions, including cleaning, cataloging, and housing artifacts
  • Maintain and update the museum’s PastPerfect database, including accession records, object records, loans, condition reports, and inventory tracking
  • Assist with rotating inventory and monitoring of artifact movement on and off exhibit
  • Support the maintenance of collection environments, storage organization, and security practices
  • Assist with artifact research requests and scheduled research visits
  • Support collections volunteers and interns as directed

Exhibition Support

  • Provide artifact information to the Curator and exhibits team
  • Assist with exhibit label writing and artifact documentation
  • Prepare artifacts for display
  • Assist with installation and de-installation of exhibits as needed

Administrative and Program Support

  • Assist with monthly reconciliation of donations and records for audit purposes
  • Support museum programming, special events, and public programs as needed
  • Contribute occasional social media content featuring museum artifacts
  • Maintain organized records of collection projects and activities

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Office 365
  • Familiarity with collections databases such as PastPerfect preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks accurately and efficiently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, vendors, and the public
  • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated
  • Commitment to accessibility, preservation, and professional museum standards

Required Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of museum, archival, library, or collections experience preferred
  • Experience with artifact handling and collections documentation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Successful completion of credit, criminal background check, and drug screening

Physical Demands

  • Moderate physical activity, including lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds
  • Standing and/or walking for extended periods
  • Long periods of computer use
  • Work in storage and lab environments, including exposure to dust and incoming shipments

Compensation

  • Job Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
  • Hours: Approximately 20–25 hours per week
  • Hourly Rate: Based on experience
  • Flexible scheduling may be available based on museum needs
