About Southeast Land Trust of New Hampshire (SELT)

SELT protects and sustains the significant lands in our communities for clean water, outdoor recreation, fresh food, wildlife, and healthy forests. Founded in 1980, SELT has partnered with landowners and communities throughout our 52-community region to conserve more than 30,000 acres of land through conservation easements and fee ownerships. These lands include more than 12,000 acres owned by SELT with 70+ miles of woods roads and trails, all open for public recreation. SELT has active programs in land conservation, easement stewardship, land management, community outreach, and nature-based education. SELT is accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission.

SELT’s offices are located at the beautiful, net-zero Nan and George Mathey Center for People and Nature, located on the 237-acre Burley Farms in Epping, NH, and part of a conserved block of land along the Wild and Scenic Lamprey River that is more than 500 acres.

Position Summary

All-Terrain Learning Adventures (ATLAS) is SELT's nature-based education initiative, an outreach program designed to connect children K-8 at our partner schools to the beauty of the natural world. This position as an ATLAS Educator will be part of SELT’s ATLAS Elementary team working with students in kindergarten through third grade. The program takes place on weekday mornings at Lamprey River Elementary School, Epping Elementary School and SELT’s Burley Farms campus. Our goal is to encourage an evergreen love of nature and cultivate the next generation of conservationists.

Our ATLAS Educators work together to deliver a fun, fulfilling outdoor program to help local school-age kids discover a love of nature, nurture mental wellness, and foster connections with land, self, and community.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead outdoor education activities, including field trips with elementary aged youth

· Implement outdoor education curriculum

· Work collaboratively with co-educators to deliver lessons covering science, social studies, SEL, and work study concepts

· Meet monthly with the education team for program preparation and professional development

· Ensure a safe and welcoming environment for children of all backgrounds

· Contribute to the overall success of the ATLAS program, performing other duties as requested

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree or higher in education or related field

· 5+ years of experience teaching and/or counseling experience, ideally including outdoor education experience

· Preference for those who hold additional certifications or training in related fields (such as Wilderness First Aid, Natural Resources Steward, Lifeguard Certification, Mental Health First Aid, Mindful Outdoor Guide Certification, CASEL Training, etc)

· Be dedicated to raising the next generation of conservations by connecting children to nature through wild play experiences

· Comfort and experience guiding children in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions

· Completion of a background check and child protection training is required upon hire

Compensation

This is a part-time, non-exempt, position at SELT. This position is not eligible for benefits or paid time off. ATLAS Elementary programs will run on Monday mornings and Friday mornings from mid-September-early June. Educators will need to be on site from 8:30am-11:30am (occasionally later for some field trips). This position works 6-8 hours per week. The stipend is based on pay ranges $24-26 per hour depending on experience and certifications. Free solar-powered EV charging is available for SELT employees at Burley Farms.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Work is typically performed outdoors and in all weather conditions. Educators are required to demonstrate proper preparation for learning and play outside. Work occasionally requires lifting up to 20 lbs. and work may take place with extremes of noise, temperature, odor, etc. Work requires navigation of uneven ground while occasionally carrying equipment or a backpack. This role is in-person with programming taking place at Epping Elementary School, Lamprey River Elementary School and SELT’s Burley Farms campus.
