The Opportunity
As our Brokerage Operations Manager , you will serve as the operational backbone of the business, ensuring profitable, on-time execution of temperature-controlled shipments from pickup through delivery. While ownership focuses on customer growth and strategic initiatives, you will lead day-to-day operations and have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the continued growth of the business. You'll receive direct support from ownership during onboarding and work closely with leadership as you take on increasing responsibility and ownership within the operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and optimize loads for equipment utilization, lane efficiency, and profitability.
- Actively source and recruit new carrier partnerships to expand our capacity pool, support new lanes, and strengthen our transportation network.
- Coordinate and book shipments while actively developing and maintaining strong carrier relationships to secure reliable capacity in our key refrigerated lanes.
- Schedule pickups and deliveries with precision, accounting for transit times, appointment windows, and temperature requirements.
- Provide customers with proactive communication, including ETAs, delivery updates, exception reporting, and shipment visibility.
- Coordinate cross-dock operations, transloads, and inventory staging while protecting product integrity.
- Monitor shipments from dispatch through delivery using our TMS and temperature monitoring systems.
- Resolve operational issues quickly and effectively, including delays, temperature deviations, and equipment challenges.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, sanitary transportation requirements, and documentation standards.
- Manage operational paperwork, including rate confirmations, carrier packets, invoicing support, and claims documentation.
- Maintain accurate records within the TMS and provide operational reporting to leadership.
- Continuously improve processes, carrier performance, and lane efficiency.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for carriers, customers, and warehouse partners, including rotating on-call support as needed.
Qualifications
•2–5+ years of experience in freight brokerage, transportation operations, or refrigerated logistics
preferred.
•Experience with refrigerated transportation, food-grade freight, FSMA, and food safety regulations is
a strong plus, but not required. We are committed to providing training and resources for strong
brokerage candidates looking to expand their expertise in the cold chain industry.
•Proven ability to build and maintain carrier relationships that provide dependable capacity.
•Experience with TMS platforms, load boards, and Microsoft Office.
•Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving
skills.
•Ability to remain calm, decisive, and solutions-focused under pressure.
•Bilingual English/Spanish is a strong plus.
What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days
- Maintain 95%+ on-time pickup and delivery performance.
- Develop and strengthen 5–15 active reefer carrier relationships in our core lanes.
- Deliver consistent, proactive communication to customers and carrier partners.
- Maintain excellent operational execution with no recurring compliance or temperature issues.
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary: $65,000–$78,000 based on experience
Health Insurance: Medical plan provided
Paid Time Off: PTO and company holidays
Performance Bonus: Incentive opportunities tied to operational performance, profitability, service
levels, and growth objectives. Detailed bonus metrics, KPIs, and payout structure will be shared
during the interview process so candidates have a clear understanding of how performance impacts
compensation.
