Financial Planning Associate (CFP)

Oak Street Advisors

Why This Role Exists

This is a developmental hire designed to build the next Lead Advisor at our Mt. Pleasant office. The firm’s owner is intentionally winding down new-client intake to focus on legacy relationships, and this role is the cornerstone of that succession plan.

You will not be asked to bring or hunt for a book of business. Our marketing engine produces a steady stream of qualified prospects. You will learn our process first under direct mentorship, then graduate into running it. This is not a fit for someone looking to serve in a planning-only role.

Career Path: A Defined Track to Lead Advisor

This is not an open-ended associate role. It is a structured 1–3 year development track with clear milestones:

Year 1 — Learn: Sit in on every prospect and client meeting alongside the owner. Build the firm’s plans under direct mentorship. Master Advyzon, MoneyGuide, and our tax planning workflow.

Year 2 — Lead: Begin co-leading meetings, owning planning deliverables end-to-end, and managing the prospect-to-onboarding process. Build proficiency in investment proposals and tax projections.

Year 3+ — Run: Move into a Lead Advisor seat with primary responsibility for new client acquisition, onboarding, and ongoing relationship management. Most new firm clients route to you while the owner transitions focus to mainly legacy relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive, customized financial plans aligned with each client’s goals — with particular emphasis on tax planning (multi-year tax projections, Roth conversions, RMD strategies, equity compensation analysis).

• Sit in on prospect calls, in-person prospect meetings, and recurring client meetings led by the owner; take notes, gather data, and translate the discussion into actionable plan deliverables.

• Build and refine investment proposals for new and existing clients under the supervision of the lead advisor.

• Maintain and update the firm CRM (Advyzon) following each client interaction and planning activity.

• Use MoneyGuide as the primary financial planning software; integrate tax software outputs into the broader plan.

• Collaborate remotely with the Myrtle Beach team (lead advisor and client operations director) on cross-office workflows and best practices.

• Stay current on financial planning best practices, tax law changes, and SEC compliance requirements applicable to our RIA.

• Leverage and adapt to emerging technologies to optimize workflows and discover new ways to maximize efficiency

Required Qualifications

CFP designation required. Candidates who have passed the CFP exam and are completing the experience requirement will be considered; fully credentialed CFP professionals strongly preferred.

• 1–3 years of dedicated financial planning experience, or a career changer transitioning from a closely related analytical role (tax, accounting, banking, or similar).

• Strong analytical, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills.

• Self-Directed Professional: thrives in an environment that prioritizes autonomy over micromanagement; able to independently manage workflows and hit deadlines

• Ability to manage multiple plans and deadlines independently in a small-team environment.

• Genuine interest in eventually owning client relationships and growing into a Lead Advisor seat — this is not the right role for a career paraplanner.

Preferred Qualifications

Enrolled Agent (EA) credential — highly favored. Given our tax-forward planning practice, a CFP+EA or CFP+CPA candidate will receive a premium on top of the base salary range. CPA in addition to CFP is also welcomed.

• Experience with Advyzon CRM and MoneyGuide planning software.

• Familiarity with tax projection software (e.g., Holistiplan, Corvee, or similar).

• Comfort with AI-assisted planning, research, and operations workflows.

• Exposure to SEC-registered RIA compliance workflows.
