Pima County's Department of Finance & Risk Management seeks a motivated and skilled professional to join our Mailroom team as a Mail Services Worker within our Financial Operations Division. As a member of the team, you'll collect, distribute, and manage incoming and outgoing mail and ensure prompt and accurate delivery. Strong organizational and multitasking skills are a must, along with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Your responsibilities include mail collection, understanding and executing delivery routes, and preparing outgoing mail while ensuring compliance with established procedures. This position requires lifting and handling heavy mail totes and boxes. A valid Arizona Class D driver's license and a clean driving record are required for this position. Essential Functions

  • Picks up, sorts and distributes mail and inter-departmental communications for all County departments;
  • Uses postal scales and affixes correct postage;
  • Sorts, classifies, marks and bundles mail to conform with postal regulations;
  • Operates mail metering machines, hand trucks and pushcarts;
  • Lifts and moves heavy mail bags and packages;
  • Keeps daily records of mail costs and postage meter transactions;
  • Provides information regarding postal rates and general procedures to other departments;
  • Drives van to perform routine mail runs, including occasional collection of mail from the Post Office;
  • Performs general maintenance of postal machinery.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  • Minimum two (2) years experience in mail services operations, including operation of postage metering equipment, sorting mail, and packaging of mail for delivery.
  • Minimum two (2) years customer service experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience with email and working knowledge of Excel.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience with alphabetic and numeric filing.

Selection Procedure

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application.  Valid  AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.

Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Some positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies, due to the need for access to County Attorney and Court facilities, records, and communication systems.

Physical/Sensory Requirements: Ability to move and lift heavy materials. Other physical and sensory requirements will be determined by position.
