About Our Job

The Denver Fire Department is seeking a highly organized and customer-focused Staff Assistant to join our administrative team. The ideal candidate will have exceptional organizational skills, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can effectively manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

This position provides administrative, research, and office management support to the Division Chief of Operations. A key responsibility is managing the Operations Calendar, which serves as the official daily record of firefighter and apparatus activities across the department.

This position is primarily located at the Denver Fire Headquarters: 745 W Colfax Ave Denver, CO 80204.

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with flexibility in scheduling. A four-day, 10-hour workweek (4/10s) may be available. This is an on-site position and is not eligible for remote work.

Successful candidates must complete and pass a background investigation that encompasses the applicant's employment and criminal history.

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate and oversee administrative functions, exercising delegated decision-making authority for daily operations.

  • Evaluate operational processes, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend or implement effective solutions.

  • Provide management with informed recommendations based on specialized knowledge and operational analysis.

  • Interpret, communicate, and implement agency policies, procedures, and organizational changes.

  • Support staff in adapting to new policies, procedures, and operational practices.

  • Monitor organizational expenditures, assist with budget development, and provide justification for budget requests.

  • Assist with revenue recovery efforts for outstanding invoices.

  • Coordinate fire apparatus activities, including out-of-service requests and operational scheduling.

  • Schedule firehouse in-service visits and track community outreach and engagement activities.

  • Monitor street closures, City-sponsored events, and other operational impacts to support department readiness.

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Etc.

Below are the minimum requirements used to determine eligibility for this position:

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

  • Experience Requirement: Four (4) years of experience performing specialized and/or technical office support work of the type and at the level of Administrative Support Assistant IV.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of education may be substituted for each required year experience.

  • License/Certifications: None
