Project Manager - Water Solutions & Services

Summary
The WSS Project Manager is responsible for the pre-construction planning, coordination, and successful execution of municipal water treatment and water handling projects within the Water Solutions & Services business unit of John H. Carter Co. The Project Manager manages assigned projects from request for quote through final closeout, ensuring each project is delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with customer specifications.
Essential Duties
- Manage municipal and industrial water treatment projects from request for quote (RFQ) through final closeout, including RFQ package reviews, detailed review and appropriate markup of engineering drawings and specifications, and development and submittal of bid packages, including material, labor and third-party services
- Develop, maintain, and track project schedules, budgets, and scopes of work, and report progress, risks, and variances to business unit leadership
- Coordinate equipment procurement, vendor lead times, and submittal approvals to keep projects on schedule and within budget
- Schedule and coordinate service technician resources for project installation, startup, and commissioning
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, engineers, contractors, and the WSS team on assigned projects, communicating progress, changes, and issues in a timely and professional manner
- Prepare, review, and process change orders, documenting scope, cost, and schedule impacts for approval
- Maintain complete and accurate project documentation, including submittals, operation and maintenance manuals, closeout packages, and warranty records
- Work with the Inside Sales and Outside Sales teams to ensure a smooth handoff of awarded projects and accurate order entry
- Occasionally travel to customer sites for project meetings, both municipal and industrial
Education and/or Work Experience
- Minimum education level high school diploma or equivalent; an associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in municipal or industrial water treatment/distribution equipment and systems, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a project management or project coordination role
- The Project Manager must have the ability to interact with customers, vendors and employees at all levels of the organization in a professional manner, treating all employees with dignity and respect
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and bid documents including the ability to clearly markup & communicate expectations in specs & plans
- Working knowledge of clean water and wastewater treatment and distribution, including pumping/transfer equipment and systems, chemical treatment, etc.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, competing priorities, and deadlines
- Willingness to communicate progress and ask for help when required
- Willingness to travel as necessary throughout the territory
- Strong communications skills, in person, and via email and telephone
- Proficiency with project scheduling, spreadsheets, PDF markups, and standard office software
- Strong mechanical and mathematics aptitude
