Attendance Accounting Technician (Bilingual Spanish REQUIRED)

An eligibility list will also be established to fill all vacancies over the course of the next year.
Note: Some positions that involve public contact may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277).
Under the direction of an assigned school site administrator, performs a variety of clerical duties in in order to maintain accurate records of student attendance in accordance with the provisions of the California Education Code; to communicate with staff, students and parents concerning student attendance; and to perform a variety of duties relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Examples of Duties
- Maintains accurate records of student attendance by documenting, verifying, and posting absences and other attendance related data in accordance with Average Daily Attendance (ADA) requirements and guidelines;
- Obtains necessary information and prepares and maintains a variety of attendance data and reports including, but not limited to, reports regarding tardiness, truancy, suspension, and discipline; Receives and verifies written and oral notification and verification of student absences provided by teachers;
- Provides referrals, information, interpretation, and assistance to parents, students, staff, and others with routine attendance or enrollment related inquiries or complaints;
- Issues readmit slips to students returning from absence; follows-up on absent students through parent contact and notifies proper authorities to assist in apprehending students with frequent absences as directed;
- Assists in identifying and resolving problems of students with frequent absenteeism; reports delinquent, truancy or irregular attendance of students to the appropriate administrators; ensure situations are documented in School Attendance Review Board (SARB) reports;
- Prepares and proofreads class lists, schedules and other written materials; oversees the timely distribution and return of materials as required for attendance purposes;
- Performs a variety of clerical duties including, but not limited to, filing, data entry, duplicating materials, date stamping and logging documents received, and opening and routing mail;
- Supports other office personnel by providing clerical assistance to administrators and other staff as needed;
- Assists in maintaining the health office at a school site; arranges for appropriate care, or if properly trained, provides first aid for ill and injured students; dispenses medication per physician guidelines;
- May requisition, receive, store, and distribute supplies and office materials as directed;
- May maintain supply and equipment inventories as directed; and purchase orders.
Other Related Duties
- For positions with bilingual designations, translates a variety of written materials from English to a second language and from that language into English; interprets and facilitates communication between staff and non-English speaking members of the public; attends various meetings to translate and interpret as needed;
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Employment Standards
Education: Graduation from high school or equivalency.
Experience: Two years of clerical experience; experience including detailed computerized record keeping and/or attendance tracking is desirable.
Special: A valid, California Class C, driver's license may be required, and if so, must be maintained during the course of employment.
Ability to be insured, and continue to be insurable, by the District's liability insurance carrier.
All licenses, certificates, and other requirements listed above are required at the time of employment and must be maintained during the course of employment unless otherwise noted.

This is an Open & Promotional recruitment: Internal candidates who attain a passing score on each examination part will be placed in rank order on a promotional eligibility list. Outside candidates candidates will be similarly placed on an open eligibility list which will be used after the promotional list or if there are fewer than three ranks remaining on the promotional list.
