GIS Technician II

Do you possess advanced knowledge of GIS technologies, utility documentation, terminology, and construction practices? Do you enjoy the technical components of working with GIS data while also building relationships with internal and external customers? If so, our Utility Data Management team is hiring a GIS Technician II to support Gas projects! You will collaborate with other GIS professionals, engineers, and business partners in advancing and performing GIS conversion processes, coordinate daily workflows, provide technical oversight, ensure quality control, and serve as the primary point of contact for service line peers. Additionally, you will play a key role in continuing to develop process documentation for Utility Data Management.

What Else Will You be Doing?

  • Editing gas utility spatial, attribute, and relationship data using ArcFM tools
  • Reading and interpreting diagrams, prints, specifications, AutoCAD drawings, and work scopes to digitize as-builts into the GIS environment
  • Reviewing and correcting data integrity errors related to various utility datasets
  • Preparing and maintaining project/construction reports, activity reports, and logs related to GIS
  • Reviewing and assisting in archiving support documentation
  • Retreiving infrastructure records for internal and external customers and scanning and uploading all service infrastructure documents into our enterprise document management system
  • Partnering in the development and implementation of new GIS editing processes, QC processes, support procedures, testing, training of staff, and documentation
  • Mentoring and coaching junior GIS staff

Who You Are

  • Demonstrated proficiency with ESRI products, including ArcMap and AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with Schneider tools
  • Exposure to ArcGIS Pro, ArcCatalog, Utility Network, and AGOL
  • Ability to use Maximo, eB, and Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge of construction standards and principles
  • Ability to effectively communicate GIS concepts and processes to a variety of audiences
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license - this job requires operating Colorado Springs Utilities' vehicles to visit job sites

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary work. Even though the weight lifted may be of only negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those is negligible.
  • Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions within an office working environment.
