Job Summary

The Senior Accountant/Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of our hospitality client, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, managing accounting staff, and supporting executive leadership with financial analysis and strategic planning. This role plays a critical part in safeguarding the club's financial health while ensuring compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and club policies.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Prepare and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage the general ledger, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end closing processes.
  • Monitor cash flow, investments, and banking relationships.
  • Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of member billing and collections.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with GAAP.
  • Review journal entries and financial transactions for accuracy.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Coordinate annual audits and work with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
  • Partner with the General Manager and department heads on budgeting and financial planning.
  • Present financial reports and analysis to the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and executive leadership.
  • Support strategic initiatives through financial modeling and decision support.

Club Operations Support

  • Analyze departmental performance and key operating metrics.
  • Assist with capital planning and long-term financial strategy.
  • Recommend process improvements that enhance operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional designation preferred.
  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in hospitality, country clubs, golf clubs, resorts, or private clubs is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, forecasting, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with accounting and club management software (such as Jonas Club Software, Clubessential, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Enterprise, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar ERP systems) is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
