CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers multiple academic degree and certificate programs designed to meet the needs of working adults, as well as traditional-aged college students, who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the workplace and the community. The Joseph S. Murphy Institute serves as entity within SLU, housing Worker Education and Workforce Development (WEWD) and Public Engagement, with two specific goals: (1) to partner with labor unions, government agencies, employers, and other CUNY units to expand educational opportunities for union members and adult learners seeking the knowledge, skills, and credentials necessary to achieve their career goals and improve their economic well-being, and (2) to serve as a hub for discussion and debate on the challenges confronting workers and working-class communities.
The focus of theWorker Education and Workforce Development (WEWD)unit at SLU's Murphy Institute is to provide academic and administrative support to union members, working adults, and non-traditional aged students who are seeking to earn a degree or certificate from a CUNY college to improve their career opportunities. Worker Education is currently searching for a part-time Program Specialist who will assist in a range of recruitment, outreach, advisement, and administrative tasks, mainly in the College Access for Working Adults Program (CUNY Days) program. The program specialist will report to the Associate Director of Worker Education and Workforce Development.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Provide prospective students with general information about CUNY colleges, program requirements, and standards to enroll students into CUNY. Appointments are conducted in person, by telephone, and on Zoom.
Use career exploration platforms such as O*Net online and the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook to assist participantswithidentifying the education requirements, work conditions, wages, and job outlook for careers of interest.
Counsel college prep students interested in a CUNY college to pursue undergraduate or graduate study by providing college and program selection guidance and application assistance
Conduct and document ongoing follow-ups with prospective students
Assist with planning, coordinating, and implementing recruitment activities, enrollment events, and orientation sessions.
Assist with marketing and promotional efforts related to events, including social media
Conduct workshops and presentations on campus, virtually, and at offsite recruitment events
Act as liaison between prospective students and staff at SLU and other CUNY colleges
Collect and maintain program participants' enrollment data for the preparation of reports
Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
At least four years of admission or academic counseling and/or career advisement experience is highly desirable
Knowledge of practices and technologies used in CUNY admissions, recruitment, and enrollment services preferred.
Experience working with adult learners.
Knowledge of career exploration platforms such as O*Net, the Bureau of LaborStatisticsOccupational Outlook Handbook, etc.
Experience planning recruitment and outreach events
Excellent organizational,communicationand interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead presentations andsmall-groupdiscussions.
Competency with multiple computer applications (e.g. Intermediate level Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, MS Access, student information systems, etc.
Competency with online communication platforms such as Zoom, TEAMS, GoogleVoice.
Detail-oriented; self-starter; ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Availability to work the required schedule, including late afternoon and evening hours, and occasional weekday or weekend events.
Required travel throughout NYC five boroughs to conduct or attend information sessions on weekdays and or weekends as needed.
COMPENSATION
Hourly rate commensurate with education and experience, between $51.94 - $56.21
