Position Summary

The Emergency Department Social Worker II is a Masters-prepared professional responsible for delivering expert social work services in the ED and hospital settings. Key duties include conducting bio-psychosocial assessments, developing individualized care plans, managing psychiatric patient needs, and coordinating interventions for patients and families. The role involves assessing and placing involuntary holds when appropriate, partnering with medical staff, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, including LPS law. The social worker provides crisis intervention, supportive counseling, and assists with discharge planning, especially for homeless patients. They participate in quality improvement activities, document all communications, and may train new staff. Knowledge of evidence-based interventions, strong communication skills, and licensure are essential, with bilingual skills preferred.
