StarCare Specialty Health System (StarCare) is seeking a full-time Inpatient Competency Restoration Admissions Specialist to join its outstanding Hospital team. The Inpatient Competency Restoration (ICR) Admissions Specialist plays a critical administrative and coordination role in supporting the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for individuals participating in inpatient competency restoration services. This position serves as a primary liaison between the program, Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), referring counties, detention facilities, transportation providers, courts, and other stakeholders to facilitate timely admissions and continuity throughout the restoration process. Responsibilities include coordinating admissions from the HHSC Clearinghouse waitlist, managing transportation logistics, tracking bed availability and census data, maintaining program records and databases, preparing required reports and documentation, and supporting operational and administrative functions of the program. The Admissions Specialist ensures accurate communication, timely information exchange, regulatory compliance, and efficient coordination of services while supporting the overall effectiveness of the Inpatient Competency Restoration Program. Although the primary function of this role is competency restoration, the position functions as an integral member of the Sunrise Canyon treatment team and is expected to support individuals across all levels of care, as clinically indicated or assigned. This position does not provide direct client care and functions primarily in an administrative, coordination, and program support capacity.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges for the Inpatient Competency Restoration Program, including managing referrals from the HHSC Clearinghouse waitlist and facilitating communication with referring counties, detention facilities, courts, transportation providers, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain program census, bed management, admission and discharge records, and other operational data while ensuring accurate documentation, data entry, reporting, and compliance with applicable program requirements.
- Coordinate transportation and logistical arrangements related to admissions, transfers, and discharges to support timely and efficient movement of individuals throughout the restoration process.
- Provide administrative and operational support to the program through scheduling, record management, report preparation, meeting coordination, quality improvement activities, and special projects as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with HHSC standards, StarCare policies, confidentiality requirements, accreditation standards, and all applicable state and federal regulations.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours.
- Ensure all required training and credentials are current and compliant with Center, federal, state, and local regulations, in addition to StarCare policies and procedures.
- Complete special departmental projects and other responsibilities with similar skill and work conditions as assigned.
- Support all activities in alignment with StarCare’s mission, values, and operational goals.
Schedule
This is a full-time, on-site position scheduled Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, with flexibility to meet the needs of the department.

Qualifications
- Graduation from a High School or equivalent, required
- Must have a current Texas driver’s license and be insurable under the Center’s insurance.
- Must pass all pre-employment and annual screenings, including drug screen, criminal background, nursing registry, and MVR.
