Instructional Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD

Crossover

  • $120,000 annual salary, paid on a weekly basis, including health, dental, and vision coverage starting day one
  • Full-time, on-campus placement at a single Alpha location: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, or South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton or Miami Beach, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • 40-hour workweek, entirely in-classroom with K-2 learners

Your credential in structured literacy — Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's degree in reading instruction — has opened doors to every K-2 reading position you've pursued. In most settings, that credential also marked the limit: you executed an existing program and filed reports. At Alpha, the credential is your entry point. If that difference resonates with you, continue reading.

Alpha has dismantled conventional teaching models. Students progress through academic content independently on AI-adaptive platforms. There are no lectures, textbooks, or prescribed pacing calendars. Your position represents the one area where human expertise cannot be replaced. You create 20-minute small-group sessions based on live app analytics; these sessions are deliberately brief, because focused precision outperforms duration. You also facilitate motivation sessions that ensure 100% of your students meet their weekly app targets through Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, competitive leaderboards, age-appropriate game mechanics). You catch a miscue during a session, identify the underlying phonemic deficit, and reconfigure the next day's workshop before you leave. That is the expectation.

Families enrolling at these campuses have selected Alpha for measurable results, not mere enrollment. Parents review weekly progress data on their child's reading development and they ask pointed questions. You will field specific inquiries about individual student advancement, and vague reassurances will not suffice. You must reference the running record, identify the phonemic challenge, and articulate your instructional response. That level of accountability should energize you, not burden you.

Your initial months focus on establishing credibility in the classroom. Workshops must be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably effective; student satisfaction and "love your Guide" survey results (target 90%+) provide direct feedback. Once you establish that foundation, your influence expands beyond your own room: successful approaches you develop with your students become templates adopted across other Alpha campuses, and your diagnostic precision influences how reading instruction evolves as Alpha scales. Your contributions extend well beyond your immediate classroom.

Before receiving an offer, you will submit a brief video in which you tell a captivating story for young children, and you will complete a full day on campus working directly with K-2 students. Low energy with children will disqualify you, regardless of credential strength. That is intentional. Apply today.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Creating small-group K-2 reading sessions based on real-time adaptive-app analytics, rooted in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or comparable frameworks)
  • Leading daily motivation sessions that drive 100% of your students toward their weekly app targets using Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate game mechanics)
  • Analyzing AI-generated performance metrics (fluency trajectories, decoding precision, comprehension indicators) to modify instruction during the day, not solely during advance planning
  • Conducting running records, fluency assessments, and decoding evaluations to generate progress visible in weekly campus data reviews
  • Serving as the engaging, high-energy adult your K-2 students are excited to see daily

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Implementing a commercial reading curriculum, scripted lesson plan, or district timeline; you design instruction from student performance data
  • Delivering whole-class lectures; all teaching occurs in targeted, small-group formats while students work through academic content on adaptive platforms
  • Serving as a reading consultant, instructional coach to peers, or district-level administrator; you teach in the classroom with children daily
  • Managing a traditional classroom schedule: sequential subject lectures, homework correction, test preparation. Your time is allocated to workshops, motivation sessions, and data-informed small groups
  • Drafting IEPs, 504 accommodations, or formal diagnostic evaluations; student advancement is tracked through app metrics and your running records, not special-education documentation

Instructional Coach Key Responsibilities

Generate quantifiable K-2 reading improvements across phonics, fluency, and comprehension within a campus culture where results are assessed weekly.

Basic Requirements

  • Structured-literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline, plus at least 2 years of full-time K-2 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment within the past 5 years, utilizing systematic phonics or structured literacy
  • Proven capacity to independently design reading lessons and clearly explain your instructional methods and content without dependence on a published curriculum
  • Availability to work full-time, in person, at one Alpha campus: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, or South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton or Miami Beach, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • Readiness to work with all K-2 students (not exclusively struggling readers) and incorporate AI and adaptive-learning technologies into daily teaching as these tools develop
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Practical experience with AI-driven or adaptive reading systems (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or student data interpretation
  • Documented reading achievement results (fluency gains measured in WCPM, accuracy increases, decoding level progression) you can quantify precisely
  • Familiarity with diagnostic reading tools (DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) for creating differentiated instructional groups
  • Experience in high-accountability educational settings (independent schools, elite charter networks, premium tutoring services with families who monitor progress closely)
  • Background in performing, coaching youth athletics, or otherwise engaging a K-2 audience beyond the reading classroom
