Youth Counselor, Alpha - $100,000/year USD
Crossover
- On-site role at Alpha School's Brownsville, TX campus
- $100,000 annual W2 salary with weekly pay. Health benefits start on day one.
- Relocation assistance available with a one-school-year on-campus commitment
You've built your career coaching kids — not instructing them. The distinction matters: a coach pushes, connects, and won't let a student accept anything less than their potential. A teacher transmits information. You've never been in the business of information transmission.
Alpha operates the most unconventional school model you'll encounter. Students don't fill rows while listening to lectures. They progress independently through AI-driven learning platforms. AI manages the academic instruction. Your responsibility is delivering life skills workshops that command K-8 students' attention, conducting motivation sessions that drive them to reach weekly learning targets, and maintaining standards when students attempt to take the easy path. The academic progression runs itself. You manage the human dimension.
This position offers a meaningful growth trajectory, and that trajectory is increased student impact. Educators who reliably achieve their metrics (100% cohort completion of weekly app targets, 90%+ satisfaction ratings) advance into Lead Guide positions where they train other educators to execute this work more effectively. Students remain the priority.
The campus sits in Brownsville, adjacent to SpaceX's Starbase facility. If you're considering leaving your current position because of the mission — transforming what a child believes is possible for themselves — rather than adding a line to your CV, submit your application.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for K-8 students addressing topics including public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange
- Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify students have authentically acquired the skill, not simply attended
- Conducting daily motivation sessions leveraging student profiles, personal interests, and Coachbot analytics to achieve 100% cohort completion of weekly app progression targets
- Employing storytelling techniques, incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and individual rapport to overcome student reluctance
- Monitoring cohort satisfaction ratings to maintain a 90%+ benchmark on student surveys
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Presenting lectures at the front of a classroom. Students progress academically via self-paced AI-driven apps, not through direct instruction from you.
- Supervising without engagement. The environment involves kids using computers; the role demands active participation.
- Compromising standards when students resist. Test2Pass requirements remain fixed, regardless of individual student circumstances during a given week.
- Creating curriculum materials independently. Workshop playbooks and lesson frameworks are supplied; your responsibility is executing them with the engagement and narrative skill that ensures genuine student comprehension.
- Handling parent communication, conducting admissions processes, or supervising facility operations. Those functions belong to different positions.
