Field Service Representative
City of Billings
The City of Billings is seeking a Field Service Representative to perform a variety of duties involved in the installation, maintenance, testing, repair, and replacement of water meters and auxiliary equipment; and to provide information and assistance to the public.
Salary Range: $22.9775 - $29.2911 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 6 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Install new electronic water meters and related equipment in homes, businesses and confined spaces.
- Inspect and replace older or damaged meters and related equipment.
- Install and troubleshoot meter interface units including wiring meter to meter interface unit.
- Measure and record the location of water service shut-off valves; turn water service off and on.
- Inspect, test, disassemble, adjust, assemble and calibrate various sizes of water meters in the field and in the shop.
- Clean meter mechanisms.
- Repair and replace defective parts.
- Investigate customer complaints.
- Provide information and assistance to customers.
- Explain policies and procedures to customers during the course of work activities.
- Assist customers in locating leaks.
- Explain how to make proper repairs.
- Investigate the unauthorized use of fire hydrants and un-metered water.
- Make visual inspections for meter tampering and cross connections.
- Investigate high water consumption.
- Prescribe proper repair procedures as necessary.
- Check curb boxes.
- Rethread standpipes and caps on curb boxes.
- Flush out curb boxes.
- Participate in thawing frozen water service lines.
- Flush and set hydrant meters on fire hydrants.
- Participate in in-service training, safety, and energy conservation programs.
- Clean and maintain work vehicle.
- Maintain records and prepare reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications And Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience in water meter installation, repair, and reading.
- Minimum of two (2) years' customer service experience.
- Must possess a valid Montana driver's license or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, and a State and Federal criminal history background check.
