Job Title: Special Inspector Job Description

As a Special Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting structural inspections of rebar, masonry, post-tensioning, and foundations. You will also perform field materials testing on soil, concrete, and asphalt, and prepare comprehensive field reports detailing test results and inspections. Laboratory testing on soil and concrete, along with site and subgrade condition evaluations, will be key components of your role. You will provide recommendations and communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and engineering and technician staff regarding construction issues.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural inspections for rebar, masonry, post-tensioning, and foundations.
  • Conduct field materials testing of soil, concrete, and asphalt.
  • Prepare detailed and complete field reports with relevant test results and observations.
  • Perform laboratory tests on soil and concrete and prepare reports of results.
  • Evaluate site and subgrade conditions on construction projects and provide recommendations.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, and engineering and technician staff regarding construction issues.

Essential Skills

  • Certification in ICC Reinforced Concrete and/or Structural Masonry (at least one is required).
  • Experience in construction materials testing.
  • 2-4 years of experience preferred.
  • Ability to learn to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • ICC Structural Steel & Bolting and ICC Structural Welding certifications are a plus.
  • ICC MSI preferred.
  • Non-destructive testing skills.
  • Laboratory testing experience.
  • ICC Technician (CMT) certification.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $66560.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
