Work you'll do
As a Deloitte Tax Senior supporting our Individual Tax Services - High Net Worth group, you will:
- Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local individual tax returns and related workpapers.
- Support tax compliance engagements for high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, and estates.
- Prepare and review applicable tax forms, including Forms 1040, 709, 706, 1041, and related state filings, as applicable.
- Analyze complex tax issues involving gifts, trusts, estate and wealth transfer matters, investments, pass-through entities, and multistate considerations.
- Perform detailed technical reviews to identify errors, missing information, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improved tax outcomes.
- Research tax questions and document conclusions using appropriate technical resources.
- Prepare clear client deliverables, supporting schedules, tax projections, estimates, and correspondence.
- Work directly with clients and their advisors to obtain information, clarify tax matters, and resolve open items.
- Coordinate with specialists in areas such as gift and estate tax, international tax, state and local tax, and investment taxation when needed.
- Manage assigned workstreams, monitor deadlines, escalate issues early, and maintain accurate engagement status.
- Contribute to process improvements, tax technology adoption, and consistent delivery across engagements.
- Review work prepared by less-experienced professionals and provide clear, timely feedback focused on technical quality.
A successful candidate will possess the following skills:
- Technical tax delivery: Demonstrates strong knowledge of individual tax compliance and can prepare and review complex returns and supporting workpapers.
- Tax research and analysis: Identifies relevant tax issues, researches technical questions, and applies conclusions accurately to client situations.
- Quality and review: Performs thorough reviews, identifies potential errors or risks, and maintains high standards for accuracy and documentation.
- Client communication: Communicates clearly and professionally with clients, advisors, engagement leaders, and specialists.
- Delivery execution: Manages multiple assignments and deadlines, prioritizes effectively, and escalates issues when additional support is needed.
- Collaboration: Works effectively with engagement teams and subject-matter specialists without requiring direct people-management responsibilities.
The Team
At Deloitte Tax LLP, our Individual Tax Services professionals support high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, and estates with complex tax compliance and planning needs. The team works across federal, state, and local tax matters, including individual income tax, gift and estate tax, wealth transfer, investment, and multistate considerations.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or another relevant field.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in individual tax compliance, including preparation and review of complex tax returns.
- Experience supporting high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, or private clients.
- Strong technical knowledge of individual taxation, with experience preparing or reviewing complex Forms 1040 and related filings.
- Exposure to gift, estate, trust, wealth transfer, investment, or multistate tax matters.
- Demonstrated ability to research tax issues, prepare supporting workpapers, identify technical issues, and document conclusions.
- Proven experience managing multiple tax engagements, deadlines, and client information requests.
- Ability to communicate tax matters clearly with clients, advisors, and engagement professionals.
- Ability to travel up to 5%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.
- One of the following active accreditations obtained:
- Licensed CPA in the state of practice/primary office, if eligible to sit for the CPA.
- If not CPA eligible: Licensed Attorney or Enrolled Agent.
Preferred
- Master's degree or equivalent in a related field.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate, high-quality tax deliverables.
- Experience preparing or reviewing gift, estate, or fiduciary income tax returns.
- Experience with Forms 709, 706, or 1041.
- Experience serving high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, or private clients.
- Experience with tax projections, estimated tax calculations, or multistate individual tax filings.
- Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with CCH tax technology, tax workflow tools, or similar tax software.
- Experience reviewing work and providing technical feedback to less-experienced professionals.
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $74,925 to $153,000.
