POSITION PURPOSE
The Rolling Mill Electrical Maintenance Operator is responsible for performing a wide range of electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation activities throughout the plant in support of safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
Essential Functions
This position is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical equipment, including but not limited to PLCs, AC and DC drives, motor starters, electrical control circuits and components, electrically actuated hydraulic and pneumatic valves, and various automation devices and sensors.
As a member of the maintenance team, the successful candidate will also perform mechanical maintenance tasks in addition to electrical responsibilities. Duties include daily preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and breakdown repairs. This position supports departmental objectives related to safety, quality, and equipment reliability within a manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
Competencies and Experience Required:
- Minimum of five (5) years of electrical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial environment, preferably within the metals industry.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
- Industrial safety practices, with safety prioritized above all other objectives.
- Troubleshooting production issues through analysis of PLC ladder logic, function block diagrams, and digital data recorders; ladder logic programming skills are a plus.
- Troubleshooting and AC and DC drives and motors.
- Diagnosing, repairing, and replacing electrical components, including but not limited to fuses, circuit breakers, overloads, cables, relays, solenoid valves, limit switches, photo eyes, and digital and analog sensors.
- Working with electrical systems up to and including 480V AC.
- Use of standard electrical test equipment such as voltmeters, megohmmeters, data recorders (IBA experience a plus), and oscilloscopes.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and prints.
- Ability to assemble and install wiring in an industrial environment in accordance with electrical drawings and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- General mechanical maintenance skills.
- Ability to lead and assist in the safe lockout and tagout of equipment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong work ethic with a high level of professionalism.
- Responsibility for maintaining departmental housekeeping standards.
Education Required
- A minimum of a high school education or GED.
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Technical degree, associate degree, or formal apprenticeship in Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.
- Experience working in a metals manufacturing or rolling mill environment.
- Demonstrated experience with advanced PLC troubleshooting and programming. (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or equivalent platforms preferred).
- Familiarity with industrial automation systems, including HMIs and fieldbus networks.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems beyond electrically actuated components. Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Industrial steel mill environment with exposure to heat, noise, grease, and moving equipment.
- Requires use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols at all times.
- Must be able to work in tight spaces, at heights, and under varying environmental conditions.
- Overtime and/or on-call work may be required during outages, critical repairs, or to cover co-workers vacations, absences, or call offs.
The employee will be required to:
- Use a wide variety of equipment and hand tools
- Use computer, desk devices, and office equipment
- Use push buttons, switches, joysticks, computer keyboard and mouse, pen and paper
The employee will be required to sit, stand, and/or walk as follows:
- Sitting 2 hours at a time; average 4 hours a day
- Standing 8 hours at a time; average 6 hours a day
- Walking 4 hours at a time; average 4 hours a day
- Alternate sitting, standing, and walking throughout the shift
The position requires the following talking, vision and hearing capabilities:
- Talking and hearing person to person, on the phone, and in a group setting
- Vision at near, midrange, and far
- Peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
The position requires the following pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying capabilities:
- Push, pull, lift, and/or carry items weighing 50 pounds or less approx. 150 ft
The employee will occasionally be required to:
- Crawl or climb
- Twist at waist level
The employee will frequently be required to:
- Drive
- Balance, stoop, kneel, crouch
- Reach above shoulder
- Reach at and below waist/desk level
- Handle, grip, hold, and grasp with both hands together or separately
- Fingering with both hands together or separately
- Feel with both hands together or separately; sense temperatures and textures with both hands together or separately

- Amid mechanical, electrical, chemical, and industrial magnets hazards
Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work/Travel Requirements
- Position is full time, non-exempt, and is eligible for overtime
- Position works rotating 12-hour shifts, including days, nights and holidays.
- Very limited travel.
