At McElroy, we've spent decades pioneering fusion equipment that helps build critical infrastructure around the world. Now we're looking for a Weld Process Engineer who is passionate about manufacturing, innovation, and continuous improvement to help us take our operations to the next level.
If you're the kind of engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, programming robots, developing new manufacturing processes, and seeing your ideas come to life on the shop floor, this may be the perfect opportunity.
In this role, you'll serve as a key technical leader, helping drive welding excellence across our manufacturing operations. From developing cutting-edge weld processes and robotic automation solutions to improving quality, reducing waste, and supporting new product launches, you'll have a direct impact on how McElroy products are built.
What You'll Be Doing
Own the Welding Process
- Develop, implement, and improve welding processes across our manufacturing operations.
- Create welding procedures, standards, and documentation to ensure quality and consistency.
- Troubleshoot production welding challenges and drive lasting solutions.
- Evaluate and specify welding equipment, consumables, and technologies.
Drive Automation & Robotics
- Program, optimize, and support robotic welding systems.
- Develop innovative automation solutions that improve productivity and quality.
- Create tooling and fixture concepts that enhance repeatability and efficiency.
- Explore new technologies that help keep McElroy at the forefront of manufacturing.
Lead Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to reduce cycle times, defects, waste, and operating costs.
- Champion Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Analyze production data and process performance to drive measurable results.
- Lead projects from concept through implementation.
Collaborate Across Teams
- Partner with Engineering, Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Operations teams.
- Support new product development by ensuring designs are manufacturable and efficient.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to identify the best equipment and solutions.
- Mentor technicians, interns, and team members while helping build manufacturing expertise across the organization.
What Makes This Opportunity Exciting?
At McElroy, engineers don't get stuck behind a desk.
You'll spend time in the plant, working directly with manufacturing teams, solving real-world challenges, testing new ideas, and improving the way products are built.
One week you may be developing a robotic welding solution. The next, you could be supporting a new product launch, designing fixtures, improving workflow layouts, or leading a project that significantly increases efficiency.
You'll have the opportunity to influence products, processes, and manufacturing technologies used by a company known for innovation and industry leadership.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Metallurgy, Welding Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of manufacturing, process, or welding engineering experience.
- Strong understanding of welding processes, equipment, and consumables used in production environments.
- Experience programming and optimizing welding robots.
- Hands-on welding knowledge and the ability to work directly with manufacturing teams.
- CAD or solid modeling experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and project leadership abilities.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively across departments.
Bonus Points If You Have
- Experience in heavy manufacturing or metal fabrication.
- Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement experience.
- Six Sigma training or certification.
- Experience designing fixtures and manufacturing tooling.
- ERP/MRP system experience.
- Experience leading cross-functional projects.
- Knowledge of advanced automation and manufacturing technologies.
