Lithium-Ion Battery Repair Technician (E-Bike Fleet)

Whizz

Position: Lithium-Ion Battery Repair Technician

Location: Jersey City

Employment Type: Full-time

Salary: $45 per hour

Are you looking for a hands-on role in a growing industry? Whizz is seeking a Lithium-Ion Battery Repair Technician to join our team and help maintain our fleet of rechargeable batteries. This is a great opportunity for mechanically inclined individuals who enjoy working with electronics and want to develop their technical skills.

Responsibilities:

• Repair at pack and cell level. Replace BMS boards, replace failed cell groups with matched cells, spot-weld nickel strip, repair connectors and wiring, and balance packs.

• Test before release. Run charge/discharge tests after every repair, verify balance and insulation, check the enclosure and seals, and sign off each pack before it goes back into service.

• Keep full traceability. Log every pack by serial number: fault found, parts used, test results, decision.

• Own battery safety. Run the quarantine area for damaged packs, follow safe storage and handling, and keep fire-response equipment and procedures in order.

• Work with the team. Support our mechanics on battery-related bike issues and share parts usage with the supply team.

Requirements

• 3+ years of hands-on repair or rebuilding of lithium-ion battery packs: e-bike, e-scooter, power tool, EV module or energy storage.

• Cell-level skills: spot welding, soldering heavy-gauge wire, cell sorting and matching.

• Solid understanding of BMS: series/parallel configurations, balancing, protection functions, common failure modes.

• Confident use of a multimeter, internal resistance meter, battery analyzer or cycler; able to read wiring diagrams.

• A strict safety mindset: you know how li-ion packs fail, and you know when a pack should not be repaired.

• Accurate, disciplined record-keeping.

Nice to have

• Experience with UL 2271 / UL 2849 products or a manufacturer-authorized repair program.

• DOT hazmat training for shipping lithium batteries (49 CFR).

• IPC J-STD-001 soldering certification, OSHA 10 or NFPA 70E.

Benefits

  • Paid Time Off, including vacation, sick leave, and public holidays
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Health Insurance (MEC Plan) with 100% covered preventive care and $0 deductible
  • Collaborative work environment that values clear processes and practical use of automation tools
  • Commute support available after the probation period
