Electrical Engineer

Lance Camper

Position Summary

Lance Camper Manufacturing Corporation, a leading manufacturer of truck campers and travel trailers, is seeking an experienced, motivated, and hands-on Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering Department.

We are looking for a self-starter who can design, develop, troubleshoot, and improve electrical systems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is comfortable working both at a desk and directly on the production floor, collaborating with Engineering, Production, Quality Control, and Purchasing to develop reliable, cost-effective electrical solutions.

A minimum of five years of electrical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is required. Proficiency in SolidWorks is also required. Experience in the RV industry is a plus but not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and improve 12V DC and 120V AC electrical systems for recreational vehicles.
  • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, wire harness layouts, and technical documentation.
  • Use SolidWorks to create, modify, and maintain engineering drawings, component layouts, assemblies, and electrical system designs.
  • Design and integrate electrical components, including batteries, inverters, converters, solar systems, chargers, lighting, and control systems.
  • Work closely with Production to resolve electrical issues and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems during product development, production, and warranty investigations.
  • Evaluate electrical components and systems for performance, reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing and suppliers to identify suitable components and opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Support new product development, prototypes, and model year changes.
  • Develop and maintain electrical bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, and assembly instructions.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify wiring, reduce installation time, and improve overall product quality.
  • Support electrical testing, validation, and applicable safety and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to production employees when necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of electrical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, including creating and modifying 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, or equivalent applicable education and experience.
  • Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical systems, circuit design, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience creating and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with electrical design software and CAD tools.
  • Experience working directly with manufacturing and production teams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the RV, automotive, marine, specialty vehicle, or related manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of 12V and 120V electrical systems.
  • Experience with lithium batteries, solar charging, inverters, and off-grid power systems.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks Electrical for schematic design and wire harness documentation.
  • Experience with electrical harness design and manufacturing.
  • Understanding of NEC, RVIA, NFPA 1192, and applicable electrical safety standards.
  • Experience with electrical system testing and product validation.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

What We're Looking For

We want an engineer who enjoys solving problems and improving products—not someone who only works behind a desk.

The successful candidate will:

  • Take initiative and ownership of projects.
  • Be comfortable working directly with production employees and technicians.
  • Find practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Identify and resolve problems before they become production or warranty issues.
  • Balance product innovation with manufacturing efficiency.
  • Work independently while contributing to a collaborative engineering team.
