Bus Drivers are paid a minimum of 4 hours per day with several opportunities to pick up additional routes during the day or after school.

A year of service annual increase will be provided to employees who have completed 120 working days in a paid status per school year based on the board approved salary schedule. New employees will begin on year 1.

Employees enrolled in an EVSC medical insurance plan are eligible to use any of the three EVSC Health & Wellness Centers. The health clinics provide primary care services, generic prescription medications, physicals, health screenings, and labs; all at NO COST to the employee or covered family member

EVSC employees have access to the EVSC Wee Care Learning Centers. The Wee Care program provides a quality early learning experience for employees' children as young as six weeks through age five at a special employee rate

This position will automatically be enrolled in the Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA). Employees may also participate in a 403(b) Plan. Enrolling in the 403(b) plan allows employees to save for their retirement by making a pre-tax salary deferral contributions to the Plan

Eligible employees may enroll in the EVSC group life insurance and long term disability plans. EVSC also offers a variety of voluntary insurance products through American Fidelity

EVSC offers a free Employee Assistance Program (EAP). It is a confidential, voluntary service that provides professional counseling and referral services designed to help employees and their family members with personal, job or family-related matters

SUMMARY:

Drives bus to transport students over specified routes according to time schedule. Complies with traffic regulations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Drives a school bus safely and professionally.
  • Performs and properly completes daily pre-trip inspections.
  • Complies with all traffic ordinances.
  • Complies with discipline polices set forth in the school code of conduct for transportation.
  • Participates in on-site training.
  • Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering school bus.
  • Shall faithfully perform all duties and responsibilities as outlined in his/her contract and follow management directives.
    • Special Education bus drivers (only) complete training required on handling disabled students.
  • Wheelchair special education bus drivers (only) complete training on handling disabled students and proper procedures to use the wheelchair lift.
  • Must maintain up to date route sheets
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Must have training (only) if driving special needs route for any purpose.

JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students.
  • Ability to read and understand maps.
  • Ability to pass state skill test, state written test, Department of Transportation physical and MDE Basic Training Program.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in oral and written form.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises students while transporting them.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Must have no points on driving record and able to pass physical including drug test.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid commercial driver’s license with all necessary endorsements.

DOT mandatory random drug testing program.

Bus driving certification card for the State of Indiana.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
