Role OverviewEngineer responsible for quality of film performance in customers hands. This individual has a clear understanding of customer expectations. Responsible for handling quality issues, commercialization of new products and change management of current products. Liaison between film sales group and manufacturing and has the ability to trace defects back to root cause. Has a fundamental understanding of film manufacturing and relationship to performance. Ensures Quality systems and Processes are in place to deliver film at exceptional quality
Customer Technical Services:
- Be the spokesperson for Quality information and Quality issues within the Motion Picture business.
- Be the owner of product specifications.
- Serve as a primary liaison for customers and other internal stakeholders on significant quality issues.
- Be an active member of product change / development & process change teams ensuring the use of the formal Gate and Change processes.
- Interact with the Film Formulation and Coating staff on product aim and sensitometric product release issues, changes, and improvements.
- Interact with the regional Directors of Sales Engineering on film and equipment changes, trends, and work with the Manufacturing departments to make adjustments to the test systems and equipment to meet the business change needs.
- Lead / work on other projects as required or asked by the Business
As the Film Processing Engineer:
- Learn the photographic processing steps and chemistries to act on issues and develop proper change certification plans.
- Oversee the product / process aims process for equipment / test film / chemical change.
- Interact with the Kodak Processing Labs and their Technical Leaders to assist in problem solving and quality improvement.
Quality Management:
- Oversee the Quality Management System (QMS) in Film Manufacturing and work with area Quality Managers and Engineers to make appropriate modifications as needed.
- Coordinate the ISO 9001 registration/certification process with Purchasing and our external auditing company.
- Interact with management and local Quality Managers when significant deviations occur and work to ensure adequate corrective action has been taken.
- Utilize proper judgement of Risk Analysis to disposition suspect product.
- Lead crisis teams. Root cause analysis – understanding the entire flow from sensitizing, to interaction in finishing steps and processing at customer site.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (Engineering, Quality Assurance, etc.) required.
- 7+ years of Quality Engineering experience within manufacturing environment(s).
- Proven ability to work, lead and represent an organization in Quality.
- Skilled in decision making with an excellent sense of judgement on product dispositions, as well as identifying issues/challenges and leading a product team to execute solutions.
- Multi-tasking while using verbal and written communication skills to not only supervise but also work collaboratively with other manufacturing areas, departments, customers, and business units.
- Strong knowledge of ISO9001, Quality Management Systems, Change Management Processes, Document Management and Document Writing
- Familiarization with Product Design / Development / Change Phases & Gates methodology
- Knowledge of film manufacturing, film use, testing & examination, and how film works.
- Knowledge of photo processing
- Knowledge of the Motion Picture business
