Requirements:
  •  Licensure in ABS.

Description:
  • The position provides direct specialized instruction in a special education setting to students with moderate to mild cognitive disabilities having functional academic needs, as well as social and communication deficits. The individual hired for this position can expect to work closely with two to three special education teachers in delivering services to students who spend a higher percentage of their school day in a special education setting. The specialized instruction occurs in core curricular areas, which includes the possibility of providing alternative curriculum in the areas of science and social studies in partnership with a special education colleague. The position requires a working knowledge of special education due process requirements and best practices in developing Individual Education Plans based on evaluation data and progress monitoring.
  • The candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills due to the need for team collaboration and planning. In addition, the individual will need to possess the skills for curriculum development and backward instructional design to ensure the needs outlined on students' IEP are addressed. Innovative thinking and the willingness to develop programming through a teaming process is a must. Ability to write reports, lesson plans, learning objectives, tests, and assists in writing and reviewing curriculum using and applying professional/technical concepts, principles and terminology.
  • In addition, relationship skills that demonstrate the ability to deal effectively and appropriately with parents, students, staff and other educational professionals over instructional needs, concerns or problems of the student and district is a necessity.  Parental and school personnel interactions require active listening, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills.
