Mental Health Specialist IIs (MHS IIs) work in our Acute Behavioral Services (ABS) programs, which cater to individuals with intensive behavioral and mental health needs. These individuals often have a history of crises, anti-social behaviors, multiple hospitalizations, and law enforcement involvement. Our programs prioritize safety by providing specialized training for manual restraints and modifying homes to ensure safety. MHS IIs may encounter verbal aggression (Which might include: may include disparaging remarks, racial slurs, and swearing) but approach care with a person-centered focus, aiming to support individuals in reaching their goals while maintaining safety for all involved.

The MHS II is responsible for providing direct services and support to each person served according to his/ her needs.  This includes intense interfering behavioral health management, assisting in maintaining a clean, safe living environment, assisting and training on daily living skills, transportation, and supervision while promoting a person-centered approach.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:  

• Must be at least 18 years old, 21 years old for some sites
• High school diploma or GED certificate
• 2 years of experience working with mental illness- Experience with behavior management a plus! 
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
• Reliable transportation and Current auto liability insurance
• Must be physically able to stand, squat, bend, or walk for long periods. In-addition to lifting 50lbs.

SKILLS REQUIRED FOR ROLE:

• Perform Positive Behavior Supports (PST) including emergency use of restraints.
• Understand and implement behavior support plans and other related plans.
• Use de-escalation and redirection techniques effectively.
• Communicate clearly in English, both written and spoken.
• Problem-solving during crises while following protocols.
• Work well with peers in a crisis situations.
• Communicate effectively with external entities.
• Make sound judgments, work as a team, and exchange ideas.
• Plan, prioritize tasks, self-manage, and communicate needs effectively.
